In 1986. a counseling professor and faculty activist at San Jose State Uni¬ versity raised the Issue at a faculty senate meeting. Since then, however, no acUon has been taken. Chris Betts. a professor In CSUFs department df management and mar¬ keting who attended the Nov. 6 Aca¬ demic Policy and Planning Committee meeting, said he was In the ROTC In college, but vehemently objects to the ROTCs policies about lesbian and gay students. Betts. who Is a member ofthe Cen¬ tral Valley ADDS Coalition To Unleash Power (ACT UP), said he fully supports the resolution made by the university and encourages the administration to do so as well. "This Issue Is morally repugnant." he said. "I'm appalled that the administra¬ tion has allowed this breach of CSU policy to continue. - The HIV [human Immunodeficiency virus] virus has been allowed to take ■ hold because of an underground com¬ munity that supports discrimination against gays. That's (the discrimina¬ tion] Is contributing to AIDS genocide.* Betts said he is going to take "strong action" to see that the issue is resolved on campus.
