Ice T doesn't kill cops,
porn doesn't rape

Pornography doesn't rape,
people rape.
Guns don't kill. People kill.
..   Drugs don't get high. People
get high.
Violent movies don't assault.
People assault.
Got it? Don't make me repeat it
Ice T did not shoot a cop, he
wrote a song saying that he felt
like it. No one is going to shoot a
cop because Ice T feels like it Ice
, T made a mediocre heavy metal
parody album (yeah, Body Count
is heavy metal, not rap) that had all
but bottomed out of the charts.
Fortunately for his sales, some
police officers decided that Ice T
was an easier target than any crimi¬
nals on the street Now, a talented
rap artist who never got more than
a gold album for his quality work
is a household name for a stupid
side project
It's a dumb song. It got a dumb
reaction. It would have been nice
for at least one police officer to
come put and say, "Gee, this is the
third or fourth song by a young
black man who is really angry at
us. Is there something we need to
look at?" Yeah, remember those
riots in Los Angeles? Send Char¬
leston Heston back to Planet of the
Apes. Intimidating lime Warner
and its employees, is fascist cen¬
sorship. Have the police gotten so
out of hand that they now govern
music? What happened to "pro-
tec i and serve?"
There are good police and there
are bad police. Unfortunately, all
I've been seeing lately are the bad
ones—the good cops are too busy
doing their job to worry about Ice

The police have a dirty job.
They are ostracized, belittled,
hated, shot at and have to break up
icky domestic battles daily. It's a
nasty job, but no one made a cod
become a cop. If police officers
don't tike their jobs, then they
should quit or put their efforts into
reforming the jc*wimsorne posi¬
tive community action instead of
gangster-like threats to businesses
that carry musk they don't like.
Now that the Xop Killer" fu¬
ror has fizzled they can go back to
their own favorite power trip—
harassing store owners about por-
- nography and labelled records.
With more than 8,000 handgun
deaths last year alone, doesn't it
seem ridiculous that cops spend so
much time worrying about sex?
That might be Pat Robertson's
agenda, but our public servants
(doesn't that term seen anachro¬
nistic these days?) should be
expected to pursue things with a
little more substance. I'd rather
have them watching my neighbor¬
hood than busting a record store
for carryingTwo Live Crew.
. As Ice T does not create cop
killers, pornography does not cre¬
ate rapists.
Rape 4b a violent crime. Rapist
are twisted individuals. Rapist
don't watch Debbie Does Dallas
and get all hot and bothered and go
hide in the bushes. Rapist are
sexually, physically or emotion¬
ally abused children who grow up
to pass the baton. The same goes
for child molesters, wife beaters,
serial killers, etc.
Either shoot them or cure them,
. but stop wasting everyone's time
with the pornography war. Stop
telling the victims that the Sports
Illustrated Swimsuit Issue caused
the violent crime.
The rapist caused the crime and
is responsible for it The victim
was assaulted by a person who
needs treatment, not a person who
is simply a "product of society."
Rapists are sick. Whether or
not the victim acted ignorantly by
getting into a questionable situ¬
ation, the victim did not commit
trx; crime. The victim is the victim.
Got it? They were the ones abused.
It is ridiculous that someone could
blame pornography for an act as
horrendous as rape. Rape is a vio¬
lent crime and, if a cause is identi¬
fied, it would certainly be some¬
thing much more intense than a
bump-and-grind video.
There are no conclusive studies
linking pornography and rape.
Anyone who says one does exist is
either tying or twisting the tale.
The only study that showed a
minimal connection used violent
pornography that is not available
to the general public. The same
study showed that violent R-rated
movies elicited the same tolerance.
Remember, rape is a violent crime.
It is not about sex—it's about
power and violence.
Sure, America is way too vio¬
lent God, guts and guns. Good
gore has become an American way
of life, but no one ingoing to go on

Dear Editor.
I would like to add my com¬
ments regarding that much re¬
ported on "Women of CSUF'girlie
calendar. I just have this to say:
Come on People! More Tits and
Ass! You Boys are getting boring!
Do It again! And this time, let's
pump out something we can take
with us into the bathroom! Many
of these women were (sigh) Fully
Clothed! I want to see Bodily Fluid
hanging off tongues, NOW! (Sa¬
liva of course, what did yon think
I meant?) I mean, please, pay no
attention to those small voices,
taint tinges of conscious that might
suggest that these images of
women encourage the same old
rxiceptions of women as objects
that is in no way mitigated by the
fact that these are college women
(if anything it intensifies) and that
this perception is the very one that
fosters the climate in which sexual
harassment discrimination and
sexual assault flourish. "What?"
say you Boys. You hear no voices?
Your conscious is free?
Beware: Just because you don't
hear them, doesn't mean they're
not there. My previous comments
were sarcastic. I am one of those
voices, frustrated and too often
silent Another calendar? Well,
that's just par for the dominant
white, male, heterosexual course.
Just because I'm not "protesting:'
doesn't mean I'm not puking.
