Inter, .ational interest growing To the Editor, The interest in the international arena seems to be growing on this campus. Just three weeks ago. International Night was a spectacular event in which wc were able to observe the variety of cultures that exist here on our campus. Also, the School of Business has just implemented the new option in International Business. The demand for graduates prepared tocntcr the arena of international activity is grow¬ ing; therefore, wc must prepare ourselves for what is to come. The opportunity to prepare yourself for a future in the international area docs exist through the California State Univer¬ sity system. I'm an assistant foar the CSU International Program trhis year. We also slate ihat it is a "Study Over¬ seas" program because many people have the misconccpiion thai it is a service for foreign students on this campus. Actual¬ ly, the American sludent has the op¬ portunity to be a foreign student within a different culture. Let me explain. This is a fabulous program that allows the Fresno State student to study overseas for a whole year. The feedback from those who have participated leads to one con¬ clusion. "Everyone should take this oppor¬ tunity; it was one of the best experiences of my life." I would have to totally agree. Two years ago at this time, I was enjoy¬ ing the holidays in Madrid, Spain. It was an insightful and unforgettable year. Spain is not the only choice. There arc sixteen countries in which you can study. France, Italy, Japan and Australia are jusl a few. You can study the language of the host country, business, history, and much more; the list goes on. Other information such as G.l' A . cost, and language re¬ quirements (not all of the programs have one) vary depending on the country. Financial Aid is applicable, so check it out. You will gain CSU credit for your courscwork and pay the regular CSU cam¬ pus fees. The average number of students who go overseas is about IS per year. I think if people were aware of this opportunity, lhc numbers would increase. That is what I hope this letter accomplishes. Check it out! Who knows where you might be next year. The deadline to apply for the 1989-90 is Feb. 1. 1989; write.it down. For more irifonnaiion, contact Sonya Hil- dreth in the international Siudenis Pro¬ grams Office.
