P«ge 4 Monday. December 5. 1968 The Dally CoOegian WINTER Continued from page 1 their style of playing. No ooe player stole the show or outplayed any of the others. Instruments were limited to two electric guitars, a bass guitar, keyboards and drums. The musicians did not rely on flashy costumes or gimmicks to attract at¬ tention. One of the Looters' songs, "Manzan- ar", was written about the Japanese intern¬ ment camp in Southern CaUforrda during World War II. "This is a song about a place very close to here." said the lead singer as he introduced the song. The Looters' music is focused mostly on the lyrics, which generally addressed social issues throughout the world. Many of their songs revolved around the turmoil in South America. In fact, the I -ooters were the first American band to perform in post-Sarnoza Nicaragua. Unfortunately, other important social issues in the Looters lyrics might have gotten lost in the translation from being written words to being ones which are sung. Trying lo distinguish songs with lyrics from those made up only of la-la-la- ing refains was a true lest for the listener. Tbe second test to the listener, alter determining that the song did in fact have lyrics, was to figure out what language they were singing in. It is assumed that the lyrics were in English, but who could tell? And the third test was a sort of true and false as to whether or not every song after the first half-hour had been played before. It was hard to tell, but bopping aimlessly around the dance floor was enough to make one throw all tf's to the wind, and just have fun. The Satellite Student Union doesn't have the best accoustics, anyway. LOOTERS Continued Irom page 1 Morgan, because the "weather is grey" and not distracting from studies. Since t"e suidents take only one class they can put their full concentration on one subject, said Taniguchi.
