Brent had a motive for selling as many iags of snacks as he could that evening: le was determined to make enough noney to purchase a pair of sunglasses he next day. Not just any pair of sun- lasses, either. "Ray-Ban Wayfarers, with a jadestone trip, above the eyebrows," Brent said utomaiically. as if he'd described them a tiousand times before. He went into great letail, even explaining the type of sun- ;lass holders he's going to get Two of his friends already have the ;lasses, and, taking time out to count his noney, it looked like Brent was going to e the third Netting $25 so far that vening. Brent was questioned if he'd put ny of it in lo his savings account. Smiling, he said no. He was going to tave those glasses. Asked whether his nother encourages him to save his mon- y, he shook his head and said, "My dad toes, though, but that's his problem, ight?" he grinned sheepishly. "lis anxiety grew as he was given his as: basket of the evening. "I hope I can ell this," he mumbled to himself. Brent :ncw he would have to move quickly to ell his food from the waning crowd, or :lsc take a loss in profits; once he buys he food from the concession stand, he :anno< return any unsold merchandise. His efforts paid off as he hustled up >ne flight of stairs and down another, in «arch of hungry people. With one bag of icanuts left in his basket, he walked down some steps, until aman raised his hand for Brcni. Smiling end sighing with relief. Brent headed back to ihe concession stand to drop off his basket No sooner had he walked away from the stand, did he have his hands in his pockets, searching for the money he'd nude that evening. He walked out the gate, stopping to talk to one of the girl hawkers he apparently knew from school. Later, Brent admitted be was trying to nuke up his mind whether or not lo ask her to a dance at Kastner Tuesday. 1 know she likes me, but I can't decide," he said. It was time to find his parents. Descend¬ ing a flight of stairs, he spotted them al¬ most immediately, and rushed over to re- put on his profits. "How many trays did you sell, honey?" asked his mother, Mary Jo Walker. He couldn't remember exactly, be said, somewhere around seven or eight. His father, David, got him the job after Brent expressed interest in selling food at the games. According to the younger Walker, it's not his first food-selling venture. His father, who works with the food industry, bought a one-gallon can of nacho cheese sauce home last summer, where Brent bought some chips and set up a nacho stand. "I made twenty bucks." he said. Mrs. Walker smiled fondly at her son. "He's a real entrepeoeur," she said. Though technically the game wasn't over (it was still the fourth quarter and the Bulldogs were ahead 35-7), Brent had his eyes once again transfixed on the game. His mother asked him a question,-but Brent wasn't listening; he was thinking of the future, when all eyes would one day be on him. Page 9 Trick, or Treat Season The GOODWILL STORE!
