The Do fly CoOeglan Wednesday, September?. 1988 Page 3 Miss Alans' guitarist improving Manuel "Manny" Diez, lead guitarist for popular local band The Miss Alans, remained in critical con¬ dition early this morning at Valley Medical Center, but a hospital spokes¬ man said Diez "is now able lo speak tots." Until Monday, Diez, who was hospitalized after a motorcycle acci¬ dent Saturday evening, bad not spoken. He remained in the VMC Surgical intensive Care Unit with a brain concussion and bone fractures in his head. "Sometimes he goes in and out of being able to talk," said Ed Moon, VMC head nursing supervisor. Diez had been put into a drug- induced coma by doctors that lasted until Sunday, according to Jay Fung, Miss Alans bass player. Fung said the coma lasted 20 hours. Saturday evening Diez's motor¬ cycle was struck by an automoble at the intersection of Wishon and Chance avenues after a car allegedly ran a stop sign. The Fresno Guitar Society, and Freedom and Unity, a minority news¬ paper, also both have budget requests pending in committfr In a separate ASI action, senior finance major Todd Golbek was unan imously ap- poinied as a justice of student court Student court is an ASI body intended for the interpretation of ASI bylaws should a conflict arise in the senate. "I have a desire to get a better under¬ standing of the student government," Gol¬ bek said. "I have real diplomatic qualities I can apply to this position." Vick, who nominated Golbek for the position, said, "he's an all-around nice guy and a fair and honest person." Golbek is the first member of me court to be appointed this semester.
