Page8 . Monday. September 12. "- . . / 1988 The Dally Collegian 'DOGS Continued from page 6 Consequently, Barsotii completed just three of nine passes for no yards. Conversely, Colorado got into FSU territory on every drive. Colorado's offensive line led by Bill Coleman (6-4, 260) and foe Garten (6-3, 270), provided ample protection for Aunese to throw and to run the ball himself as he tallied 72 rushing yards on 7 carries. Last year, Aunese displayed his running ability as well rushing for 612 yards wilh a season high against Washington State of 185 yards. The most effective byproduct of Colorado's dominant line was halfback Eric Bieniemy. The 5-6 sophomore ran at will Saturday accumulating 118 yards on 22 carries. His yardage led to a 446.to.97 advantage in total rushing yards for the game. The 508-177 difference in total yards illustrates clearly Colorado's dominance from beginning to end. Evidence of running game lcpsid"d"rss -vas displayed the earliest. At half time, Colorado held a 157 lo 57 rushing yard advantage. While ihe game was still in hand at /The' beginning of the third 'quarter, Colorado's Jeff Campbell made a play that was to break it wide open. At the 13:33 point of the third quarter, Campbell ran a 74-yard reverse for a touchdown to extend their lead 17-3. Bieniemy soon followed this up with a 35-yard touchdowhlTiiTto put Colorado out of reach 24 to 3. For Fresno Slate, junior fullback Myron Jones managed a respectful -56 yards rushing while Kclley Skipper was uncharacteristically held to 40 yards on six carries. Meanwhile, Barsotii was not able to provide the spark he did a week previous. He did not complete a pass until the middle of the third quarter. Even then, the Madera freshman was only able to muster a few short passes and the completions were few and far between as Colorado's defensive line would not let Barsotii have lime to set and get off decent passes. He ended the day with only 58 yards passing on 14 completions. Later, in the fourth quarter, sophomore quarterback Marc Walters replaced Aunese and ihrcv/ a tow'HltHBP pass lo fullback George Hemingway, extending the insurmountable lead to 31- 3. Freshman quarterback Darian Hagen put thefmishing touches on for Colorado using his running ability to add two more touchdowns to the tally. Next week, Fresno Slate will entertain a more equitable opponent in New Mexico State for ihe home opener. The game, Saturday night, will also begin conference play for the Bulldogs.
