Only one men's player — No. 4 seed Chris Gerety — reached the finals in the championship bracket for FSU. Gcrcty lost in the No. 4 finals to UC Irvmes Mike Briggs 7-6, 6-0. Earlier in the season, Gerety bested Briggs 6-4, 6-3. FSU had better luck in the consolation bracket as No. 5 Pat Maley and No. 6 Steve Galley both won their finals matches. Maley defeated Pacific's Mike Sandoz 7-6, 7-6 while Galley demolished Gary Peralta of San Jose State 6-0,6-1. - Jean LeClercq, FSUs No. 1 seed, was eliminated in Friday's first round action. LeClercq found some solace though, as he won his all-time high 100th career match at FSU in the consolation round UC Irvine won the overall men's Lille as they won seven of the nine individual titles in singles and doubles. UC Santa Barbara finished second, San Jose State ame in third, while FSU finsiied tied with Cftng Beach State for fourth place. The key casualty, though, was FSU designated hitter Eddie Bustamante, who suffered a hand injury and is expected to miss the rest of the regular season. The Bulldogs travel next to the Uni¬ versity of Santa Clara for a two-game series with the giant-killer Broncos, who defeated No. 5-ranked Loyola Marymount twice this weekend.
