So no one's perfect What am I talking about, you ask? Well unfortunately, I'm an ardent fan of a 11 the real Los Angeles sports teams. • No, not the Raiders and the Angels, I'm talking about the Rams and the Dodgers. Ahhhh. Now you know what I'm talking about I guess my mom drank too much when she was pregnant with mc or I suffered irreparable brain damage as a toddler, because I can't for the life of me remember why I like the Rams and the Dodgers. Sure, the Rams had their heydays in the 5Cs and fcXTs, but I wasn't around then, and god only knows -. why twhy????) they stopped playing real football the day I was born. Well they did go to the Super Bowl once (and were plummeted by the greatest team of all time, the 1979 Pittsburg Steelers by a score of 31-19.) But other than that what have they done for me lately? Okay, so they did go make it to the NBC Championship game in 1989 but a 27-point loss (30-3) to hated rivals San Francisco and the luckiest quarterback in the world (sorry, Doug Flutie) ended my hopes of the Rams eyer winning the Super Bowl. Thereto top it off/ they go and lose 24 of their next 32 games over the next two seasons to make me almost believe that the Atlanta Falcons could really be that good? Nahhhh. So what about the Dodgers? Thafs it, so what? 4 Sure they were arguably the best team of die Ws, but what have they done for me lately? They did win the 1988 World Series over an highly-favored Oakland A's team, but that was only because Kirk Gibson had to make everyone think he was god (sorry, Kirk, you're only a demi¬ god), but for the past three seasons it has been excuses and what-if s. But that didn't happen. ^ I wonder if it may have been better for the organization if he had stepped aside. If you look at the situation, you begin to realize how long Lasorda has been with the Dodgers. Of all the managers currently in Major League Baseball only one, Detroit's Sparky Anderson, was a skipper when Lasorda took over the Dodgers some 15 years ago, and Anderson was with a different dub altogether (National League West rival Cincinnati Reds). Furthermore, if you look at the past 40 years in the Dodger organization, only two people have managed the team, Walter Alston, and the Big Linguini. Maybe I'm just too demanding of a fan. I don't know?- -1 guess you could argue that the California Angels last won the American League West when they played at the LaBrea Tar ' Pits (I'm kidding), and tell me that I expect too much. But, the Oakland-Los Angeles-Irwindale-Los Angeles-???? Raiders have found enough time to win a few Superbo wis, and most Angleaners think the Raiders are now the best thing since god created oral sex. . I don't know, but I do know that I'm one » frustrated fan, and I don't think I'll ever root for the Rams and the Dodgers again. . Maybe. Congratulations to three former FSU football players who signed free agent contracts with NFL teams: / , Emery Braxton, comerback, Cincinnati Bengals Kelvin Means, wide receiver, New England Patriots Frank Jones, wide receiver, New York Giants USU Storks Grant Prcgram»C^Cr^ .
