Riech, Dooley - lead Bulldogs into home meet • Fresno State prepares to face Occidental College, UC Davis and Fresno Pacific Saturday afternoon at Warmerdam Field /Thei DailyCoD^gUm • April 24,1992 Chuck it! DC Staff Reports The Fresno State men's and women's track and field teams will host Occidental College/ UC Davis and Fresno Pacific this Saturday afternoon at Warmerdam Field. The Bulldog men's team enters competition with an 8-1 mark overall, 6-1 outdoors; The women are a perfect 9-0,7-0 outdoors. N^L Leading the way once again for the men is All-American; javelin thrower Todd Riech. The school-record holder is undefeated in six competitions this season. He has already met the "B" standard for the Olympic Trials in June. Reggie Jackson continues to impress in the triple jump. The four-time All-American has qualified for the NCAA Championships with a mark of 54- 93/4. * r . Earlier, he landed a wind-aided jump of 55-2. Freshman pole vaulter David Cox is hot on the trail of teammate Derek Oliver for the team lead. Cox set a school freshman record witha vault ofl7-91/4onAprilll. Other Bulldog men to watch Saturday are Ernie Freer (1,500), Jamey Harris and Jabari Reynolds. . As for the PSU women's team/ Ail-American Tanya Dooley continues to make the competition in the 400 meter dash look silly. Dina Farage (10,000 meters) and Monica Missick (110 hurdles) will also prove to be stiff competition for visitors to Warmerdam Stadium. In early May the Fresno State men's and women's track teams, will play host to the Big West Conference championships, fitting since FSU joins theWestern Athletic Conference next season. Not to my surprise; when Fresno State was nowhere to be found in the rankings, those experts probably laughed out loud when the Bulldogs began the seasorf%-5, desite playing those eight games against Pacific 10 rowers Stanford, California and Southern California. Anyway. I figured the loss of Jones'arm alone was too much for even Bennett to beaten Stanford, Cal USC, Brigham Young and Creighton, along with six other vktin\s.SteveSoderstrom and Mike Salazar havecomethroughonthemoundaswellin recent weeks, butlrawtosalutetteBuDdog' • bats-Todd Johnson, Brant Brown, Philip Romero, Terance Frazier, Gary McNamara, John DaSilva, Bryan Judice and everyone else who swings the bats for the 1991 All the Bulldogs needed was for a pitcher breakthrough as Jones did one year earner.
