The Daily.CoUegian • April 3,1992 8 ROSENBERG from page 7 and.speedster Kenny Lofton are already good and getting better,' third baseman Carlos Baerga, short stop Mark Lewis, designated hitter Alex Cole, catcher Sandy Alomar Jr., and first baseman Reggie Jefferson are the stars of the not-to-dista nt future—maybe in 1992. The rotation behind Charles Nagy, Scott Scudder and Jack Armstrong has potential and closer Steve Olin will be a good one. The Indians may or may not win this year but look out for them next year. 7. New York Yankees Danny Tartabull (31 homers, 100 RBI's, 316 avg.) is a welcomed addition as is a healthy Don Matungly. New York will put up plenty of offensive numbers behind catcher Matt Nokes (24 homers), designated hitter Mel Hall (19 homers, 80 RBI's) and outfielder Roberto Kelly (20 homers). But N.V.'s pitching staff is the worst in baseball. Scon Sanderson won 16 games but couldn't go more than six innings last year, Tim Leary has been a basket case ever since leaving the Dodgers, Mike Witt hasn't been healthy (or consistent) since 1986, and Melido Perez isn't Roger Clemens. To make matters worse, Steve Howe, the team's only legitimate pitcher, is in trouble with the law for the Godzillionth time and his future is again douded. The Yankees will either lose 90 games or win a lot of 9—8 power exhibitions. My heart goes out to rookie manager Buck Showalter. 1992 Award Predicitions NX.
