On the final day of competition, Nyman was four over par at the 13th hole but managed to birdie four of the five remaining holes and overtake UC Irvine's William Yanagisawa for the tide. The victory is Nyman's first as a collegiate player. Carissimi shot a one-under-par 71 on the final day to jump from seventh place to second. It was his second top- five finish of the season. The Bulldogs finished second to UCLA byonly three points (866-869) in the 21-team tournament. UC Irvine was third. Other Bulldog finishers included Joe Acosta (10th), Todd Spain (75th) and Randy Reed (88th). i Next up for the Bulldogs is the Fresno State Lexus Classic at Belmont Coun¬ try Qub on April 10-11.19 teams will compete in the event, which has been won in psat years by current PGA players Tom Watson (Stanford, 1969), and Craig Stadler (USC, 1973,74). The Bulldogs (29-5, 11-1) entered the tournament with a modest six-game winning streak, but were ousted by Cal Poly — Pomona in the first game of the championship bracket. This afternoon's double- header will be the first of three in a row for FSU. Cal State Fullerton will be at Bulldog Diamond this Saturday after¬ noon, followed by UC Santa Barbara on Sunday. Fresno State head coach Margie Wright, the nation's sixth winningest coach, will face a Pacific team which cur¬ rently ranks second behind the Bulldogs in the Big West stand¬ ings. The Tigers are 19-16 overall, 7-5 in the Big West Bulldog shortstop Kim Maher leads the team in hit¬ ting with a 333 batting aver¬ age. Maher had her 10-game hitting streak snapped in FSU's 8-1 victory over Oregon in the PONY Tournament • m ' * •v - • ■
