SPECIAL EDITION PRICAN PEOPLES JIISTORY MONTH A Brief Outline of the Month's Events Arts and Cratfs Fair Wednesday, February 5th, there will be an Arts and Crafts Fair on the balcony of the University Student Union. Artists and craftspeople will be displaying their work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. AKA Women's Forum The Alpha Kappa Al p ha So¬ rority, Inc. will host the "Af¬ rican-American Women's Forum.Workforce 2000 on Samnlay,February9th. Pro¬ fessional aAfircan-American women will be discussing their methods for making it in the workforce. The fo¬ rum will focus on resume writing,interview ski lis and business etiquette needed to succeed in a professional at¬ mosphere. The forum will be from 9 a.m. to noon, upstairs in the Cafeteria, room 202. A Phi A Info Night On Sunday, February 9th, the Alpha Phi Alpha Frater¬ nity, Inc. will hold an Infor¬ mation Night. All those interested in A Phi A should attend. The event will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the USU room 311. Keynote Speaker CSU Fresno alumni John Stanfield II will be speaking on Monday, February 10th in the Satellite Student Un¬ ion at 7 p.m. Stanfield, a professor of sociology at William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia, will discuss "The Subject is Racism: The Poetics of Dis¬ honesty in Public Discourse and Private Life". Stanfield is die keynote speaker for the month. Buffalo Soldiers The Buffalo Soldiers preci¬ sion drill team will present "Vision Quest" on Tuesday, February 11th, at noon in the Free Speech _\rear. The Buf¬ falo Soldiers will also be per¬ forming at various other ools during the week. Tuskeegee Airmen The*histoi*yoftliecelebra Tuskeegee Airmen will be presented on Wednesday, February 12th, in the lobby of the USU. The traveling museum uses videos and pictures to tell the story of the only all Africar^Ameri- can pilot program in this country's history. Come meet a true part of African- American history! Organization's Day Wednesday will' also be Organization's Day. This will be a chance for any or¬ ganization that is interested in attracting African-Ameri¬ cans as members to come and present their group. Tables will be set up on the balcony of the USU from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. "Sadie Hawkins" Dance Valentine's Day, February 14th is the date set for the "Sadie Hawkins" dance in the Satellite Student Union. The dance is sponsored by the African Student Union and the Academic Excel¬ lence Organization for Afri¬ can-American Athletes. All students are invited to at¬ tend. The dance is free to all CSUF and FresnoCity Col¬ lege students. A valid ID is required and limited occu¬ pancy will be enforced due to firecode restrictions. Cooking Presentation Peer Helth Education will be presenting a taste and learn workshop on healthy ethnic foods. Come and learn low fat cooking techniques and tips for healthy eating. The focus is on reducing the fat content of favorite foods. The workshop will be held on Wednesday February 15th from 6-7 p.m. in Art/Home Ec room 108. Children's Day Thursday, February 20th will be Children's Day. Ele¬ mentary age children from area schools will be on cam¬ pus to participate in a vari¬ ety of workshops and pro¬ grams aimed at increasing their awareness of African- Americans in history. The SatelliteStudent Union is the site for this activity, which will be t*rom 8a.m. to 1p.m. J Tribute To Sisterhood Delta Sigma Theta Sorori ty, Inc. will present "A Tribute to African-American Sister- hood" on Sunday, Febru¬ ary 23rd at 3 p.m., in room 309 of the USU. This is a chance for sisters to come together and pay tribute to each other, as well as those who cleared the path to today. Gospel Night Alsoon Sunday will be Gos¬ pel Fest 1992. Starting at 4 p.m. in the Satellite Student Union, individuals and choirs will be on hand to sing some of their favorite gospel songs. Gospel Fest is free to all who rum out for an afternoon of spirituality. Three Decades of Film "Three Decades of African- Americans in Film" will be presented from Tuesday through Thursday, Febru- ary25th-27thfrom6-10p.m. Each night will feature two films from a particular dec¬ ade, either the 1970/sWsor '90's. The place where the films will be shown will be announced at a later date. Amateur Night Friday/February 28th, will be "Amateur Night at the Satellite", a talent show open to all interested people. The show will be patterned after "Showtime at the Apollo", a show broadcast from New York's Apollo Theatre, and shown on late night televi¬ sion. Talent will have to reg¬ ister to have the opportu¬ nity to participate. Entry rules and applications will be available at die Student Activities office next week (February 10th). The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Art Presentations Around Campus Art exhibits on campus this month will be on display in the Madden Library and the President's Gallery. In the library there will be a picto¬ rial display on the second floor depicting the life of slain civil rights leader, Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. The display will be up through February. Also in the library, front February 24th-28th, will be a pictorial tribute to African heroes and sheroes in history. In the President's Gallery, Dr. Ehigiator will have his collection of Afri¬ can artifacts on display during the month. Dr. Ehigiator and Paulette Flem¬ ing, of the Arts department, will presenta workshop this weekend as the second of two parts of "Articulture and Ethnicity.
