To meet these needs of
the community, the
Fresno County Health
Department and All
About Care are
sponsoring an
anonymous support
group for women with
HIV infection or AIDS.
The support group
meets every other
Thursday at Sierra
Community Hospital at
6:30 p.m.
The group offers
counseling through the
interaction of others who
are HTV positive or who
have AIDS.
"The hope we have is
for each member of the
group to leave the
meeting with a phone
number of someone they
met in the group," said,
Alan Gilmore, health
education assistant at the
Fresno County
Department of Health.
Gilmore said the group
provides an opportunity
for women to receive
material on the disease
and how it affects them.
"The disease is quite
different in women,
especially the early stages
of HIV," explained
Gilmore.
"The group also'
discusses the question of
childbirth and whether to
continue or start a family
which are questions not
that relevant to men."
