Dr. Ram Nunna named Lyles College of Engineering dean

Dr. Ram Nunna has been named dean of the Lyles College of Engineeringat Fresno State. Provost Andrew Ho announced the selection, whichcame following a national search.
Nunna has been interim dean of the college since August 2010. Prior tothat, he served as associate dean and chair of the Department of Electricaland Computer Engineering. He joined the Fresno State faculty in 1998.
“Dr. Nunna has done an exceptional job leading the LylesCollege of Engineering,” said Ho. “He has forged a numberof signicant partnerships that will benet the college in theyears to come. I am certain the Lyles College will thriveunder his leadership.”

Nunna said that he is honored to have been selected as the permanentdean and is looking forward to working with colleagues to build upon thestrong legacy of the college.
“The Lyles College provides unique opportunities for students from ourservice areas to earn engineering and construction management degrees,and also plays an important role in regional economic development,”Nunna said. “We look forward to continuing to work with industry andother partners in and outside our region.”
Nunna earned his doctoral and master’s degrees in Computer Engineeringfrom the University of Louisiana, Lafayette, and a bachelor’s degree inElectronics and Communications from Bangalore University in India.
His teaching and research have been in the areas of application specicintegrated circuits and computer architecture.
Dr. William Lyles, Fresno businessman and engineering collegebenefactor, called Nunna a good choice for dean. “I’ve worked closely withRam Nunna over the last few years and he has done a good job as anacting dean. I’m very pleased to see he has been selected to continue asthe permanent dean.”
Nunna is currently a member of President Castro’s Commission on theFuture of Agriculture, the DISCOVERe tablet initiative and university’s TaskForce on Internationalization.
He previously served on the President’s Commission on Human Relationsand Equity, the Grants Research Advisory Board, the Academic Senate’sGraduate Committee and Academic Policy and Planning Committee.
Fresno State has oered engineering courses and programs since 1922.The Lyles College of Engineering oers six nationally accredited degreeprograms in the areas of Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering,Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Geomatics Engineeringand Mechanical Engineering. The college also oers graduate degrees andoptions in Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering,Mechanical Engineering, and Water Resources and EnvironmentalEngineering.
