Fresno State alumnaPatti Waid joined FresnoState on Monday, Nov.27, as the new directorof UniversityCommunications.
Waid, 48, most recentlyserved as executivedirector of public aairsat California StateUniversity, Chico fromApril to November 2017.Previously, she served asassistant vice chancellorfor universitycommunications at the University of California, Merced for four years.
“I am happy to welcome a Fresno State alumna to serve as the University’schief communications ocer,” said Paula Castadio, Fresno State’s vicepresident for University Advancement. “Patti’s many years of experiencein higher education and public relations positions her to lead our activecommunications team and University to bold new heights.”
As director, Waid will oversee a sta of ve that is responsible for writingand editing the University’s press releases, handling media relations,coordinating social media, publishing Fresno State Magazine anddistributing the internal weekly campus newsletter.

Waid earned a bachelor of science in business administration(international business option) from Fresno State and a teachingcredential in bilingual education from National University. She also spenta year at the International Center for French Studies, Lumiére UniversityLyon 2 in France.
Fluent in Spanish, Waid began her career as a Spanish immersionelementary teacher in Davis.
“Spanish-language outreach is a growing area of opportunity for FresnoState,” Castadio said.
At CSU Chico, Waid led campus crisis communications, served as chiefspokesperson and oversaw media relations and outreach. She also ledthe consolidation of numerous websites into a single robust multimedianews website for the university.
At UC Merced, Waid is considered a founding sta member whodeveloped communications programs from the ground up helping toestablish the university’s prole following its opening in 2005.
Waid is a member of the Public Relations Society of America.
“I cannot pass up an opportunity to return to my alma mater in a positionthat represents a perfect match for me and, I believe, for the University Iknow so well,” Waid said.
