Orlando Leon joins president’s cabinet to head technology

President Joseph I. Castro named Orlando Leon as Chief InformationOcer, a new Cabinet-level position charged with creating and supportinga more integrated and responsive university-wide information technologyvision and leading the IT sta and services.
Leon has 15 years of experience in the information technology eld, andcurrently is director of operations in the Oce of the Vice Provost forTeaching and Learning at Stanford University. He previously heldleadership positions at the University of California, San Francisco andworked at Hewlett-Packard and Oracle.
He will start August 3, report directly to Castro and lead a department of78 employees.

Leon holds three degrees from the Massachusetts Institute ofTechnology: bachelor of science in management science with a focus onoperations research, bachelor of science in computer science andengineering, and master of engineering in electrical engineering andcomputer science.
He served on several committees at UCSF and holds leadership andtechnical certications from UCSF, Stanford and MIT.
