Retires
Eaton joins PG&E's
board; Peters exits
One Fresno business leader has
joined the board of directors of the
Pacific Gas and Electric Co. at the
same time another retires.
Lewis S. Eaton was elected to the
PG&E board at a meeting in San
Francisco this week. Eaton is chief
executive officer and board chairman
of the Guarantee Financial Corp.,
which is the parent company of the
Guarantee Savings and Loan Association.
Retiring is Leon S. Peters, president and general manager of Valley
Foundry and Machine Works. He had
served on the PG&E board since
1970.
Eaton and state Schools Superintendent Wilson C. Riles were appointed to the advisory member in September. Riles also was named a director this week, along with Leslie L.
Luttgens and Robert B. Hoover, both
of San Francisco.
The utility is based in San Francisco.
Eaton is a former president of the
Fresno County and City Chamber of
jCommerce, past chairman of the
Fresno Regional Foundation, past
president of the Fresno Unified
School District board of education
and former chairman of the Western
Region of the National Parks Advisory Board.
Eaton has been on the board of the
Federal Home Loan Bank of San
Francisco. He was president of the
California and United States savings
and loan leagues.
Peters is chairman of the board of
governors of Fresno State University,
vice president of the California State
Universities and Colleges Chancellors* Associates and a director of the
California State Universities and
Colleges Foundation. He also is a
past president of the Fresno chamber
of commerce.
He has been active with numerous
organizations including the Sequoia
Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Valley Children's Hospital, the
Shrine Tehran Temple and the California Wine Institute. A wing of the
Fresno Community Hospital is
named in his honor.
Also leaving the board are Ransom M. Cook of San Francisco, who
has served since 1960; James M. Hait
of San Jose, who was elected in 1966,
an4 Porter Sesnon of San Francisco,
a director sice 1955.
The men had reached or passed
the retirement age of 72 established
in 1976 by the PG&E board for its
members. The policy became effective this year.
