All Out For Momjian

He said that more has happened for the Armenians in
the last three years than
during all other years combined.
Referring to Armenians as
"we," Momjians said "for
Armenians in the United
States, our sun is rising." ,
Speaking with pride and
optimisim he stressed that the
words Armenian and American go hand-in-hand. He
complimented the United
States on all it has done for the
Armenians and looked to the
future with determination.
Momjian said his most
enjoyable meeting during his
Fresno visit was with the
Armenian Students Organization at CSUF.
"The future of our people
is in the hands of our youth,"
Momjian said.
Fresno Mayor Dan White-
hurst welcomed Momjian and
expresed his pride in the contributions Armenians have
made to the Fresno community.
When he wasn't busy serving
as master of ceremonies,
Fresno County Superior Court
Judge Robert Mardikian,
provided the audience with
some of his humorous anecdotes. Mardikian is the honorary chairman of the United
Armenian Commemorative
Committee.
Congressman Charles
"Chip" Pashayan accompanied
Momjian to the banquet and,
according to Allan Y. Jendian,
was responsible for bringing
Momjian to Fresno.
Tenor Varoujan Assadourian,
accompanied by pianist Ben
Krikorian, sang three Armenian songs.
The event was arranged by
the UACC Governmental
Relations Committee directed
by Nish Kochian.
At the close of the banquet,
Momjian received a gold tie
pin in the shape of a raisin
from UACC Chairman Allan Y.
Jendian.
Rev. Father Kourken Ya-
ralian of the Holy Trinity
Armenian Apostolic Church
gave the opening prayer, and
Rev. Harry Missirlian of the
Pilgrim Armenian Congregational Church delivered the
benediction. Both pastors
have been active supporters
of the UACC.
During the remainder of his
Fresno stay, Momjian was
escorted on a number of tours
of the agriculturally rich Central
San Joaquin Valley. He visited
business operated by Armenian-Americans including
Garry Packing Co., Del Rey
Packing Co., Sadoian Bros.
Growers & Packers, Tamouzian
Bros. Growers and Packers,
Yahnian Walnut Dehydrator
Co., California Growers-
Setrakian Winery, Hagopian's
International Delicatessen, Hye
Quality Bakery and the Valley
Bakery.
He also met with agrci-
cultural leaders at the Kings
River Conservation District
office and toured the Producers
Cotton Oil Co. Momjian was
accompanied on his tours by
Congressman Pashayan, UACC
Chairman Jendian, UACC
Governmental Relations
Chairman Kochian and others.
The weekend activities
were arranged by the UACC
Governmental Relations Committee headed by Kochian and
