Student Body President We are all, I'm sure, finishing this year at FSC with different thoughts and emotions. If I may, I would like to share a few of mine with you. I'm certain that anyone would call this an eventful year. The many student, faculty, and administration activities have all contributed to making it busy and memorable. However, from my somewhat biased vantage point, certain happenings and activities have held special significance. Certainly one of the most notable of these was the approval of the Student Union, a goal toward which many students have worked for many, years. The Union, to be completed in approximately two years, will be a most valuable addition to our campus. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to work for it. Another of these significant activities was the work of the student constitutional review committee. The proposals of the committee were put forth in response to a felt desire of the student body; that is, give the students more control of their own affairs. It is hoped that the students will take full advantage of their new responsibilities. Of course, not to be forgotten was the inauguration of President Ness, a most distinguished affair for a most distinguished individual, whom we in student government have come to know and respect. In the inauguration and the events surrounding it, the students played a very important role. I would hope that an affair of this type (a convocation, along with appropriate activities publicizing the college) will continue to take place on an annual basis, in order to strengthen that very important link between the college and the community. The list is seemingly endless. All of the more or less traditional events, celebrated successfully as a result of hard work on the part of the students responsible for them, have been significant, and, I'm sure, very much enjoyed and appreciated by the student body. The work of student government is not now, nor will it probably ever be, complete. Although notable gains, in the areas of student participation and control, have been made, there remains much to be accomplished. Only through the efforts of informed and interested students can these further gains be made. May I say thanks to all of you, who have worked so hard throughout the year. My association with you has given me many happy memories, and much faith in the future of student government on our campus. HERM HOWERTON iHmii r""i ii •,,--M •/,:.. I V;;.'/.-'-- ?V 21
