School o£ rftt& and Science* Department of Chemistry — Students follow the formula to the letter anticipating the results of the experiment. The School of Arts and Sciences include 18 departments which represent the college's general educational requirement courses with the exception of a few electives. All the departments are grouped under one school because it is the liberal arts section of the college deemed necessary by the California State Board of Trustees. The adoption of the university plan has brought changes in two departments. The physical education department is now operating under one chairman for both men's and women's physical education. Social work, which used to be included in the anthropology-sociology department, is now in its own division, The Division of Social Work. Department of Art — Busily molding clay to become a piece of pottery takes practice and patience as students get hands full. Department of Anthropology-Sociology — Professor David Brewer moderates a panel discussion on the principles of sociology for his beginning sociology class. 24
