/tSSPtsaidznt As I reflect over the past years, I tend to compare and contrast this year's government program with the past four administrations, and although there are a few basic differences, there are definite trends of putting the student more into the "decision-making process" outside of the classroom. At a recent Student Presidents' meeting, Dr. Glenn S. Dumke stated that today's multiversities have to produce more than just graduates, but that leaders are an asset which this country would have to have in great abundance for the society to prosper. He further stipulated that student government would be the spawning ground for future leaders. Here at Fresno State College, the Association officers are placed in key financial decision areas involving the students' money, if the new student Constitution is passed, an even greater number of students will take on the responsibility of financial disbursement and major policy decisions. The Student Council's actions in the area of the Reading Period proposal designates an example of the students' voice in major policy decisions, it is this kind of concern which students are going to have to question, and have the authority and intelligence to answer appropriately. In summation, I have tried to point out the trend of student involvement in today's colleges rather than to touch on specific instances here at Fresno State College, and I have done this because I feel it is this trend which shows that student government has had a place and will have even a greater role in tomorrow's educational institutions. It would be impossible for me to try and name all of the different individuals who have put their efforts into this year's successful program; but I can earnestly say that the program would have never been completed without your contributions, and on behalf of Fresno State College, I thank you. Sincerely, Ernie Kinney ASB President 78
