"Your Teeth and Your Health" Fortunate indeed is the Man, Woman or Child who is "Dentally fit," for more often than otherwise, to be dentally fit means general physical well being. One rarely associates radiant health with unclean and decayed teeth. There are ever so many reasons why neglect of Oral health is obviously unwise. Consider the factor of lost time, and its far reaching economic results. Needful repair attended to when first the defect is observed, can save both the Patient and the Dentist many trying hours. Also in long neglected cases there is often need for the Dentist, in making restorations, to sacrifice a great deal of tooth structure, with a consequent weakening of the remaining portion. The life then of the pulp or nerve is endangered and altogether the whole procedure becomes somewhat hazardous and ultimate success an unknown quantity. Consider also the many possibilities of endangering life itself, by failure to heed very definite warning that all is not well with the teeth and their supporting tissues. Infection often enters the body by way of an infected tooth, and may in time involve organs and structures remote from the point of entry. Many serious bodily ailments originate from infected teeth, many lives are shortened and made miserable by failure to give proper attention at the proper time to conditions which cannot possibly become better without mechanical or surgical interference. Dentistry has, and will continue to offer a service to humanity of inestimable value. Dentistry looks forward to the day when Oral Health will be far more universally encountered. Dentistry as a healing art has high hopes for the future, and welcomes any opportunity to give out helpful information. Cooperate with your Dentist. He can help you to better health, to greater comfort, and to a more complete happiness. Give him an opportunity to advise you and to help you prevent further dental disease. Avoid those professional charlatans who offer to perform miracles for a song. There is no short cut to successful dentistry, and there are no medicines which are a panacea for all dental ills. Successful people today refuse to handicap themselves because of preventable disease. Let your thot be prevention rather than cure, and avoid the consequences of dangerous delay. Your most valuable possession, namely health, may otherwise be irreparably damaged. Fresno District Dental Society 234
