* ACADEMIC Heath Slaughter Sierra Summer School POSSIBLY the most enjoyable school term any student could experience is the one that is held each summer at Huntington Lake in the high Sierras approximately seventy-two miles from Fresno. Not that every school session is not enjoyable; but most students like to "fripe". It is certainly true that students return from that term extremely enthusiastic. It may be the invigorating climate, perhaps it is the location of the school, or it may be the air of general good-fellowship that characterizes the students and faculty; but whatever it is, work is done more efficiently, there is less complaining, and there is far more enjoyment of the work undertaken here than any other place one can find. Friendships spring up almost immediately; formal introductions are the least worry of everybody. It has been proved time after time, that it takes just about half the time to complete work here, over the same work in the valley during the regular school term. Work that has to be taken over (for some reason or another), or work that has been dreaded by the student, is easily overcome in this atmosphere. Studying is a simple task, and leaves plenty of time for the play that is multitudinous in its aspects. Riding, swimming, fishing, hiking, boating, all are excellently developed for the enjoyment of the participants. Among minor sports are horseshoes, croquet, volley-ball, tennis and games that the older students will enjoy as well as the younger ones. Last year, on June 30, the first meeting of the student-body was called to order for the purpose of electing officers to guide the policies and destinies of the 1930 summer session. Robert Slaughter, Leslie Heath, and Nell White were elected to the respective offices of president, vice-president, and secretary. These guided the summer session wisely and well to a successful close in August.
