STUDENT COUNCIL First row: Snyder, D. Turnbull, C. McPherson, Stebbins, Desmond, E. McPherson, Hinman, Chapin, Beetle- stone, Hamanaka, Tienken. Second row: Brodie, Cobb, Davis, Harriet McClurg, Ruth, Coffee, Pichetto, Van Hassel, Helen McClurg, Carr, Call. Third row: Jones, Masten, Yocum, Counter, Mikesell, Jenkins, Palmquist, Melchior, Smittcamp, McGill, Anderson, Andress, Reuter, Hein. For the avowed purpose of acting as an advisory board to the student president and serving as a body of first review for student initiatives, the Student Council meets bi-weekly to thrash over student body problems. Composed of representatives of every recognized campus group, nearly all of whom have proposals, serious or otherwise, to bring before the group for discussion, the Council nevertheless manages to put through a number of plans for campus improvements. Among the more important accomplishments of the advisory body this year were the setting up of rules and regulations for the athletic managerial system, a system for the selection and promotion of "Yell Kings," and the passing of a motion to keep probationary students out of Spring Swing. After the ratification by the student body of the amendment to provide for a student court, it became another duty of the council to elect members of the court for two-year terms. Aside from student representatives, other members of the Student Council include Dr. Frank W. Thomas, Dean of Men Mitchell P. Briggs, and Mary C. Baker, dean of women. 34
