FRESHMAN ORIENTATION "PHE Freshman Orientation Committee, under the direction of Larry Johnson, presented the Freshmen Reception on October 22 in the Rainbow Ballroom. A crowd exceed- ing all previous records attended. Later in the semester, the Freshman- Sophomore brawl staged its annual fracas at the college training field. Spring semester entrants were honored at a dance given by the second semester freshmen students on February 25. A semi-formal social followed later in the semester. Those who aided in initiating the neophytes to the academic and social phases of Fresno State were Bill Davies, Dick Mallory, Nancy Mallory, Jane Andersen, Lois Rein- old, Shirley McGrew and Kenneth Edman. PUBLIC RELATIONS lAJTlTH a goal of promoting Fresno State College and its various activities throughout the year, the public relations committee, under the direction of Tom Lynch, employed every media at its disposal in publicizing the annual all-school show, Varsity Varieties. Operation Fun comprised one campaign in which Fresno State, its merits, and its curriculum was promoted throughout city and valley high schools. This year a new plan was initiated whereby the most outstanding students, in point of service to the college, received certificates of merit at special assemblies in recognition of their achievements.
