NATIONAL STUDENTS ASSOCIATION ". . . to maintain academic freedom and student rights, to stimulate and improve democratic student governments, to develop better educational standards ... to preserve the interests and integrity of the government of the United States of America ..." are a few of the many purposes of the National Student Association, according to the organization's constitution. NSA was founded in the summer of 1947 at a convention called in Madison, Wisconsin, for the purpose of forming a democratic union of American students. Fresno State was represented at that convention. The following fall, the Fresno State Student Council voted to join the NSA and ratified its constitution. The basic unit of NSA is the student body, and its activities are based upon the needs of the college as expressed by the Student Council or members of the student body. The Fresno State Chairman of National Students Association this year was Stephen Lagudis. WSSF heads, Barbara Riechel and Guinn Sinclair. NSA national publication.
