sf; the longer i am associated with fresno state college, the prouder i am of the institution, i believe that in years to come, as you thumb through the leaves of this volume of the campus, you graduates will find that your admiration and love for the institution have grown, however great they may be at your commencement, the term college has been variously defined, once i heard knute rockne say that a college is a large area of land surrounded by automobiles, that is an apt definition here at fresno state, a better definition, however, is "a society of teachers and scholars." you can be proud of fresno state's glorious past and its promise for an even greater future, i urge you to continue your interest, support, and association with your alma mater, a college is not merely a place; it is a society, keep your alma mater foremost in your thinking and cherish it always, may the best of good fortune follow you! arnold e. joyal . -j
