CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, FRESNO, SUMMER SESSIONS 17 programs. BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES California State University, Fresno is located on a 1410-acre site at Cedar and Shaw A venues in the northeast section of the City of Fresno. Ample space is available for the expansion of facilities necessitated by a continually increasing enrollment. The major buildings on campus include administration, student administration, agricultural classroom, agricultural mechanics, art, bookstore, business, cafeteria, college union, educationpsychology, engineering, home economics, home management cottage, industrial arts, library, gymnasiums for men and women, music, science, social science, speech arts, student health service, residence halls, art building, residence hall commons, San Ramon buildings and bookstore. The residence dining facility, student health center, engineering building addition and industrial arts building addition are new buildings which will be open this Fall. A new science building is presently under construction with other new buildings and additions to existing buildings scheduled for the immediate future. The major academic buildings on Shaw Avenue, first occupied during the 1953-54 school year, are located within a 220-acre area. They are in a setting of colorful trees, shrubbery, flowers, and lawns. A tree-lined amphitheater accommodates convocations, and other large assemblages. A memorial court and fountain and a free speech area, centrally located, contribute both to the functions and atmosphere of the college. The University Farm consists of vineyards, orchards, various field crops, and livestock. The 34 farm buildings and equipment provide one of the most modern and best equipped agricultural plants in the west. The properties of the university also include the Ratcliffe Stadium and the University Avenue Extension Center, both located off-campus. Summer Sessions The California State University, Fresno, Summer Sessions offer to those who wish to do college work in the summer an opportunity to take a variety of cultural, professional, vocational and avocational courses. The offerings are planned to meet the needs of interested groups, teachers in service, regular college students, and high school graduates planning to matriculate in the college, who find it desirable to use the summer months to expedite their regular college programs. Nonteachers find many courses of general cultural and avocational interest in the summer offerings. The program for teachers includes professional and academic courses that satisfy the requirements for all standard professional credentials, as well as for the bachelor of arts and master degrees. Summer work in all sessions counts as residence work for all degrees and credentials. Summer Session students are permitted to carry a maximum of seven 56 I 5 10 280
