SCHEDULES OF COURSES The official schedules of t:.'our.~es arP. lo~atP.n at thP. front of P.a~h sP.ssion respectively followed by pertinent information and course descriptions. For easy identification the schedules are printed on colored paper. The schedule lists the schedule number, course number and course title, location where each class is to be held and faculty assigned to each class. Due to changes which develop after the bulletin and schedule have been published a correction sheet is made available prior to the opening of each session and may be obtained at rE)gistration and in the Summer Session Office. Numbers COURSE NUMBERING SYSTEM Definitions and Eligibility 1-99 Lower division (!d) courses designed for first- and second-year students, but open to others. 100-199 Upper division (ud) courses designed for third-, fourth-, and fifth-year students; enrollment permitted by second-semester sophomores with adequate preparation who have completed a mjnimum of 45 units. Counted as graduate work for students with grnduate status; permitted for use on a master' degree program only with departmental approval. 190 Independent study, undergraduate. 100G-199G For graduate students only; designed for use in the first year of two-year master's degree programs; intensive combination of material normally offered at the undergraduate level. 200-299 Graduate courses open to holders of baccalaureate degrees and, with prior approval of the instructor, to second-semester seniors with superior preparation and ability; designed for use on master's degree programs; when taught by extension, count as upper division in master's degree programs. 290 Independent study, graduate. 299 Master's degree thesis or project. 300-399 Designed to meet professional needs which cannot be served by regular established course offerings. These courses are offered only through eldensian and summer sessions. They assume completion of the bachelor's degree and/or appropriate professional service and are focused upon the problems that enrolled students encounter in their professional service. Although these courses are designed primarily for purposes other than the partial fulfillment of degree and credential requirements, they may, with approval by the department, be applied toward the major. They may be used as part of the forty-unit upper division requirement for the BA degree and as electives in the fulfillment of the total requirements for a baccalaureate degree and/or credential. They may not be used to meet the requirements of a master's degree. Other Designations For symbols appearing after course numbers, A-B indicates a two-semester sequence normally to be taken in order; A and B courses which may be taken independently are normally listed as separate items.
