Fees and Expenses Business Office Chris Robinson, Director of Accounting Services Joyal Administration, Room 152 559.278.2764 62 2006-2007 California State University, Fresno General Catalog Registration Fees and Tuition Fees for Nonresident and Foreign Students. Registration and tuition fees are refunded under the revised policy adopted by the Board of Trustees at its November 14, 2001 meeting. The refund policy is detailed in Coded Memorandum AA- 2002-13 dated February 13, 2002. In summarized text, beginning with the fall semester 2002, students are entitled to a pro-rata refund determined on the basis of the date of the student’s with-drawal and the length of the academic period. Students will be entitled to a full refund of mandatory fees and/or nonresi-dent tuition only if they cancel their registration or drop all courses prior to the first day of instruction for an academic term. Students who drop all courses prior to the end of the designated drop period or who officially withdraw no later than the 60 percent point in the academic period shall be entitled to a pro-rata refund of nonresident tuition and/or mandatory fees. Any refund due a student is to be applied first toward any required return of student financial aid funds from federal, state, institutional, or external sources and then the balance may be returned to Student Fees* Students are required to pay registration fees (as indicated in the chart on this page), course fees, and nonresident/ foreign tuition. General authority governing most fees is contained in the California Education Code, Sections 89700 and 89724. Course Fees Course fees are provided in the “class notes” after each subject listing in the Class Sched-ule and at the following Web site: http://my. csufresno.edu. Fees may range from $4 to $350 depending on the course. Non-Resident and Foreign Tuition** Nonresidents and foreign students are re-quired to pay out-of-state tuition in addi-tion to the mandatory registration and course fees. Tuition is charged at $339 per unit. The total nonresident tuition paid per term will be determined by the number of units taken. General authority of this fee may be found in the California Education Code, Section 89705. (Fees are subject to change without notice.) ** A nonresident student is any person who has not been a bona fide resident of the state of California for more than one year immedi-ately preceding enrollment. The exact deter-mination date may be ascertained by contact-ing the Admissions/Records Office. *** The law governing the CSU provides that a student body fee may be established by stu-dent referendum with the approval of two-thirds of those students voting. The Student Body Fee was established at California State University, Fresno by student referendum on May 12, 1959. The same fee can be abolished by a similar two-thirds approval of students voting on a referendum called for by a peti-tion signed by 10 percent of the regularly enrolled students. (California Education Code, Section 89300). The level of the fee is set by the chancellor. An increase in the student body fee may be approved by the chancellor only following a referendum on the fee in-crease approved by a majority of students voting. Student body fees support a variety of cultural and recreational programs, child care centers, and special student support programs. ****Mandatory systemwide fees are waived for those individuals who qualify under the pro-visions of the California Education code (see section on fee waivers, pages 65-66). A full refund may be made to a student who is unable to continue a course because of a university regulation, compulsory military service, death, or disability at any time prior to the date the student receives any academic credit for any course or courses for which he or she is registered. Policy on Refund of Fees. California State University, Fresno (the university) administers refunds in accordance with the California Administrative Code and directives of the California State Univer-sity (CSU) system. Whether a fee is refundable, in whole or in part, varies according to the particular fee involved.
