222 FRESNO STATE COLLEGE GENERAL EDUCATION R£QUIREM£NTS The following courses will satisfy general education requirements. Area II: Pol Sc 1, lOT, 120, 151. (See General Education-Courses) 1. Modern Political Systems (3) Courses POLinCAL SCIENCE Major systems of modern government; democratic and totalitarian ideologies; structure and function of govermental institutions; importance of constitutions, public opinion, elections, representation, interest groups, and political parties in the governmental process. 2. American Government and Institutions (3) (Former Pol Sc 11) Meets the United States Constitution requirement and the federal, California state and local government requirement. Not open to students with credit in Pol Sc lA-B or 101. Government within the context of society; relevant studies in economics, sociology, anthropology, history, psychology organized around a set of governmental questions. lOT. Contemporary Issues in Politics (3; max total 9 if no topic repeated) Prerequisite: Pol Sc 1, 2, or permission of instnlctor. Significant contemporary uses in political theory, world politics, comparative govemment, American government, local government, or public administration. 101. Amer;can Constituti~n, Institutions and Ideals (3) Meets the United States Constitution requirement. Not open to students below second semester sophomore or with credit in Pol Sc lA-B, 2, 11, or equivalent. Executive, legislative, and judicial functions of our government under the constitution; federal, California state and local governmental relationships. 102. Seminar in History of Political Thought to Machiavem (3) (Former Pol Sc 112A) Prerequisite: Pol Sc 1, 2, or permission of instructor. Development of political thought from Plato to Machiavelli. 111. Seminar in History of Political Thought Since Machiavelli (3) (Former Pol Sc 1128) Prerequisite: Pol Sc 1, 2, or permission of instructor. Development of political thought from Machiavelli to the present. 114. Seminar in American Political Thought {3) Prerequisite: Pol Sc 1, 2, or permission of instructor. Development of American political philosophy from its European foundation to the present; geographic, economic, social and cultural influences on American political ideas; effect on governmental policies and political institutions.
