1 l GENERAL INFORMATION 19 BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES Fresno State College is located on a 1410-acre site at Cedar and Shaw Avenues in the northeast section of the City of Fresno. The major buildings on the campus are administration, agricultural classroom, agricultural mechanics, arthome economics, bookstore, business, cafeteria, college union, education-psychology, engineering, home management cottage, industrial arts, laboratozy school, library, men's gymnasium, music, science, social science, speech arts, student health service, and women's gymnasium. A large amphitheatre is located between the speech arts :md music buildings to accommodate commencements, convocations, and other large assemblages. The residence halls, located on the southwest corner of the campus, provide living accommodations for 523 men and 735 women. Capital outlay plans for the next five years include construction of a new bookstore, art buiJding, engineering building, industrial arcs building, science building, business building, humanities- social scence building and food science building. The major academic buildings on the Shaw Avenue Campus, first occupied during the 1953-1954 school year, are located within a 220-acrc area. These modern buildings are surrounded by trees, shrubbery, flowers, and broad expanses of lawn. A fountain is located in the Memorial Court. Parking areas arc located within and around rhe fringe of the area. The j. E. O'Neill Park, on campus, provides both picnic and recreation areas for faculty students, and community organizations. The F-resno State College Farm has 34 structures that provide one of the most modern and best equipped agricultural plants in the west. - Ratcliffe Stadium on Blackstone and University Avenues, and the University Avenue Extension Center are off-campus facilities of the college. The Bakersfield Residence Center offers both regular and summer session programs as part of Fresno State College. Many other centers in the valley arc utilized to olfer extension courses, summer programs, and workshops. LIBRARY The College Library is housed in a building completed in 1965. Its resources include 245,000 catalogued volumes, 140,000 government publications, 36,000 pamphlets, 33,000 maps, and 23,000 pictures and prints. Over 2,300 periodicals are received on subscript.ion. Special collections include the Roy J. Woodward Memorial Library of Californiana and the College Archives. A collection of 9,200 volumes in the College Laboratory School Library provides a model library for an elementary school. The Music Library has over 12,000 phonodiscs and tapes. The library building accommodates 1,375 readers. All students have free access to the resources of the Library. Professional librarians are available to assist srudeots in their usc of library materials. The Library is open seventy-seven hours a week, during hours posrcd at the entrance to the building.
