2002-2003 California State University, Fresno General Catalog 37 International Programs International Programs Office Academic Affairs Family and Food Sciences, Room 111 (559) 278-6452 • FAX (559) 278-4203 http://www.csufresno.edu/International_Programs Berta Gonzalez, Ed.D, Interim Director International Programs The International Programs Office is responsible for leadership and coordination of international study abroad programs conducted by California State University, Fresno. The office is designed to assist faculty and administrators in developing and strengthening international educa-tion efforts; disseminate information about international study opportuni-ties; encourage students to enroll in international study programs; award limited numbers of tuition waivers to international students coming to study in Fresno; and serve as an information center for Fulbright awards and other sources of support for study abroad. A faculty advisory council works with the director to assist in this task. The university, in its Vision for the 21st Century: A Plan for Excellence, set a goal to have 10 percent of students participating in the study abroad programs. Several “semester abroad” programs allow students to complete part of their studies in other countries: • The London Semester • The South Pacific Semester In addition, students have a wide range of study-abroad opportunities through the CSU International Programs and through the University Studies Abroad Consortium. (See International Programs under the Special Programs section on pages 464-466.) In its determination to enhance global understanding, California State University, Fresno encourages international academic exchange and cooperation. The university also has partnerships with a number of universities around the globe. At the present time, the university maintains academic cooperative programs, including, in some cases, student exchanges, with the follow-ing institutions: • Yerevan State University, Armenia • Belarusian State University, Belarus • Universidad Sao Paulo, Brazil • Universidad de Santiago de Chile, Santiago, Chile • Beijing Union University, China • East China Normal University, China • Dalian University of Foreign Languages, China • Guizhou University for Nationali-ties, China • Universidad El Bosque, Santafe de Bogota, Colombia • Ecole Superieure du Commerce Exterieur, Paris, France • University of Dijon, Dijon, France • University of Rennes, Rennes, France • University of Passau, Passau, Germany • University of Münster, Germany • University of Stuttgart, Germany • Baiko Gakuin University, Japan • Kochi University, Japan • Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Japan • The Catholic University of Korea • Dong-A University, Korea • Keimyung University, Korea • Kon-Kuk University, Korea • Sungshin Women’s University, Korea • Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterey, Mexico • University of Guanajuato, Mexico • University of Torreon, Mexico • Amsterdam School of Business, Amsterdam, Netherlands • Copernicus University, Poland • University of Gdansk, Poland • University of the Philippines • Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore • University of Seville and Univer-sity of Barcelona, Spain • Jonkoping International Business School, Jonkoping, Sweden • University of Central Lancashire, United Kingdom • University of Leeds, United Kingdom In some cases, instruction is available in English. Usually, fluency in the language of the country is required. University cooperative arrangements allow waiver of tuition in some cases.
