168 I ADVANCED STUDIES THE STANDARD DESIGNATED SERVICES CREDENTIAL WITH A SPECIALIZATION IN CHILD WELFARE AND ATTENDANCE PREREQUISITES The applicant shall have completed a program including the following: (a) A baccalaureate or higher degree from an institution provided by the State Board of Education. (b) Teaching credential and a minimum of two years teaching experience. (c) Completion of courses in (1) child development, (2) learning theory, and (3) child and adolescent p ychology. PROFESSIONAL PREPARATION Candidates for the credential in Child Welfare and Attendance must complete course work as follows: A. Principles of Guidance AS 174, Principles and Techniques in Guidance B. Group Work AS 228, Seminar in Group Process, S Wel127, Proseminar in Group and Community Services, or Psych 261, Group Techniques C. Community Relations Jour 113, Public Relations D. Occupational Information A S 222, Seminar in Occupational Analysis and Information E. Laws Related to Youth A S 172, Laws Relating to Children F. Casework and Field Experience AS 224FB, Field Work in Child Welfare and Attendance G. Exceptional Child A S 160, Education of Exceptional Children H. Administration and Supervision School Law Curriculum Development School Finance Six units selected from the following on the basis of student weaknesses: A S 261, Organization for Administration and Support of Education; A S 265, Seminar in Legal and Financial Principles in School Administration or A S 266, Seminar in School Finance; Finance and Business Administration; A S 272, Seminar in Advanced Curriculum Evaluation and Development I. Counseling A S 224, Counseling Techniques or Psych 262, Diagnostic Clinical Interviewing Students interested in psychometrist or psychologist credentials should consult the Psychology Department for an adviser. School Social Worker candidates should consult the Dean of the School of Social Work. A two-year program leading to the master's degree and authorizations in (1) Psychometry, (2) Psychology, or (3) School Social Work is offered. Consult the Department of Advanced Studies for further information. SPECIALIZED PREPARATION TO TEACH EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN SPECIALIZED PREPARATION WHICH MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR A MINOR Specialized preparation to teach exceptional children may be substituted for a minor in each of the programs leading to the Standard Teaching Credential with Specializations in Elementary Teaching and Secondary Teaching. Specialized preparation is offered in the areas of mental retardation, speech and hearing handicapped, and deaf and hard of hearing. Students wishing to minor in special education should consult the Coordinator of Special Education not later than the second semester of the sophomore year. Students selecting specialized preparation for a minor must select a major in an academic subject matter area.
