170 I ADVANCED STUDIES TEACHER OF DEAF AND SEVERELY HARD OF HEARING CHILDREN The following course work, clinical practice, and student teaching are offered for students interested in teaching in the area of the Deaf and Severely Hard of Hearing. All of the specified competencies for diagnostic-prescriptive teachers interested in this specialization may be acquired through the following cour es (may be taken concurrently): A S 160, Education of Exceptional Children A S 170, Introduction to Learning Disabilities A S 242, Seminar in Behavior Modification A S 243, Motor, Sensory, and Perceptual Abilitic~ A S 245, Seminar in Identification and Evaluation of Exceptional Children A S 246, Language· and Cognitive Abilities A S 248, Social and Affective Education A S 250, Prescriptive and Individualized Instruction A S 256, Practicum in Special Education MASTER OF ARTS DEGREE The Advanced Studies Department offers a master of arts degree in education with concentrations in administration and supervision and educational theory; a master of arts degree in counseling, und a master of arts degree in special education with concentration · in mental retardation, gifted, and educationally handicapped and learning disabilities. Courses may be applied both on these degree programs and on the desired advanced credential program. For specific requirements for the master of arts degree consult the department· chairman and the coordinlltor of the School of Education graduate program; for general requirements, see School of Graduate Studies. For detailed information about the graduate program, see the Graduate Bulletin, available in the Office of the School of Graduate Studies. Students must also comply with policies and procedures established by the School of Education Graduate Committee.
