DEGREES-CREDENTIALS 55 last day of scheduled fin:t1 examinations. A fee for binding is due and payable at the Fresl'10 State College Association Office on the date of fi.ual submission. A student who wishes to retain more than one bound copy may arrange for the extra binding by paying an additional fee. (See Fees and E:vpe11ses.) APPLICATION FOR DEGREE An application for the master's degree must be filed in the Evaluations Office in the .first two wccl{s of n semc.c;cer OJ' .first week of a sununer se.c;sion. Failure to complete requirements for the deg1·ee during the semester of the application ncccssimtes rhe .filing of a new application fo rhe semester of actual completion. FOREIGN LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT Fresno Stare College does not have a general foreign language requirement for the m:1ster's degree. Some speC-ific master's degree majms do, however, xequire competence in an appropriate foreign language. Students who courcmplare g1'3dnate study beyond the master's degree nrc urged also to investigate foreign langm1gc requirements in the institution in which they anticipate 3dvonccd graduate study. MAXIMUM STUDY LOAD Students arc warned that graduate courses require substantially more concentrated study than do undergraduate courses. During the fall or spring semester 16 wtits is the maxinnun load for master's degree srudenrs in full-time :men dance when one or more courses in the 200 set·ies arc inc.luded. Students employed fuU time may rake a maximum of 6 units. The maximum for summer session is one urut per week of attendance. GRADE REQUIREMENTS All graduate students will be held to the scholarship standards listed under Regulations and Procedures. No course with a grade below C may apply on a master's degree contract program. To be eligible for advancement to candidacy, a student must have earned a lt aver~ge on all upper division and graduate course work completed after the date of embarking on the first course to be included in the master's degree program. To be eligible for enrollment in the thesis or project or in a seminar alternative to the thesis, a student must have been advanced to candidacy and must have maintained a B average on his contract program. To be eligible for the granting of the degree, a student must have maintained a B a'•crugc on his complete contract program. Any grade earned in a cour se on the conn·act progrnrn contintles to figw:e in the grade-point average, even if that course is for any reason later dropped from the progran'l. To be eligible to receive the master's degree witb disti1lction a student must have earned a 3.9 grade-point average on the contract program for the master's degree or on all upper division and graduate work sub cqucnt to the bachelor's degree. EXAMINATIONS To nddi:tion to the qualifying examinations required for adv:mcemcnt to candidac)' for the m:~stcr's degree. nil depaxrmcnts reserve the right to require written or oral compl'ehensive examinations when circum$tances demand.
