Athletics Academic excellence and athletic accomplishment go hand in hand at Presno State. Fresno State is a member of the prestigious Western Athletic Conference. The broad-based intercollegiate athletics program provides athletes with opportunities for high-level competition while pursuing a quality education. To ensure academic development, California State University, Fresno - known in the athletics world as Fresno State - has instituted a counseling system designed specifically for student athletes. Services include academic advising, guidance and counseling, monitoring of progress, and daily study halls. Facilities. Bulldog Stadium features a 41,031-seat capacity. Beiden Fieid, a 4,575-seat basebail stadium, is considered one of the finest collegiate complexes in the country. Buildog Diamond, home of Fresno State softbail, seats 2,700 and is the finest on-campus facility of its kind in the nation. Fresno State has track and fieid facilities, two gymnasiums, an indoor/outdoor swimming complex, two weight training rooms, 12 newly surfaced tennis courts, six indoor handball! racquetball courts, and putting greens and driving areas, complete with sand traps for golf, Fresno State also has a new women's locker room and weight room. Men's Intercollegiate Athletics Baseball. With 25 NCAA playoff appearances and three College World Series showings, Fresno State has earned a national reputation for having one of the finest baseball programs in the country. Basketball. The Bulldogs basketball program has enjoyed an infusion of enthusiasm and support, with Selland Arena soldout on a season ticket basis. Cross Country/Track and Field. Fresno States cross country team captured conference titles in 1981,1984, and 1988. The track and field team won 10 straight league crowns from 1983 to 1992. Football. The Bulldogs compete for the Western Athletic Conference title and a trip to the Holiday Bowl. The Bulldogs tied for the WAC title and advanced to bowl games in 1992 and 1993. Golf. The Bulldogs finished fifth at the 1990 NCAA Championships and have earned a Top 20 finish at the national tournament 10 of the past 17 years. Soccer. Highlights since 1982 include 11 NCAA tournament appearances, a 1986 Final Four shOWing, and a No.1 ranking in 1987. Tennis. The Bulldogs have advanced to the NCAA tournament the past three years. They had their first-ever singles All-American in 1995. Athletics Department Office of the President North Gym, Room 146 (209) 278-2643 Allen R. 80hl, Director Wrestling. The Bulldogs have had 17 wrestlers achieve All-America status the past 15 seasons. They have won the WAC titie the last four years. Women's Intercollegiate Athletics Basketball. Fresno State's competitive basketball program put together nine winning seasons during a recent la-year stretch. Cross Country{frack and Field. The Bulldogs have built powerful track and cross country programs, winning consecutive conference track crowns in 1991 and 1992. Equestrian. Women's equestrian is the newest varsity Bulldog sport, debuting in 1996, Soccer. Fresno State women's soccer made its debut as a varsity sport in 1995. Softball. The Bulldogs have made 19 straight playoff appearances from 1978-96, with nine women's College Word Series appearances. Swimming and Diving. The swimming team finished third in the WAC the past four years. Tennis. After years of success in the Big West ConferenceJ the women's tennis team finished fourth in its inaugural WAC tournament in 1993 and third for the iast three years. Volleyball.
