Students at the university
are growing and changing
in new ways each semester.
The staff members of the University
Student Union (USU) and the
Student Life and Deveiopment
Office recognize the importance of
positive experiences outside the
classroom. Staff members strongly
support the academic experience
at the university and promote
college activities to enhance
intellectual growth. The USU and
Student Life encourage cultural,
social, emotional, educational,
and physical development in a
variety of ways. Developing
leadership skills in students is one
of the primary goals.
The University Student Union and
the Office of Student Life and
Development function as the
administrative home for a variety
of student program offices in the
Division of Student Affairs and
Auxiliary Services. These programs
include student leadership
development, Greek affairs}
student clubs and organizations}
intramurals and recreation,
Inside your Student
Union, you have
several entertainment
options, such as chess
or pool.
student activities, and Southeast
Asian student services.
Student development is not a
single program but rather an ethic
that flows through all of the
activities and programs in the
office. It is an orientation that
constantly seeks to know
and understand student needs
and looks for ways to help
students accomplish their goals.
The USU and Student Life promote
a sense of university ownership
in students. It is important to
maintain student contact with
administration. Staff members
actively strive to enhance students}
campus experiences.
Special programs include Vintage
Days, a four-day campus celebration
that occurs each spring.
Totally planned and executed by
students, Vintage Days offers fun
and entertainment for Fresno
State students and the community.
There is a variety of competitions
and performances, as well as
a carnival and a large crafts fair.
Student Life also supports African
People's History Month, AmerAsia
Week, the Cinco de Mayo Celebration,
Women's Herstory
Month, Diversity Awareness
Grants, Leadership Retreats and
Conferences, and the Office of
the Associated Students Inc.
Bowling, billiards, and video
games are just a few entertainment
options students have in
the Recreation Center in the
University Student Union.
Eateries in the USU include TCBY,
The Coffee Spot, Hungry Bear
Cookies, Taco Bell, Subway, and
China Station. The USU Pavilion
is host to Tower Records} Council
Travel} Golden One Credit Union,
Dean of Comics, and Postal
Services Plus. Additional services
found in the USU include fraternity
and sorority advising, an oncampus
facility reservation center,
information about student clubs
and organizations, and Southeast
Asian student services.
At the USU's Information Center}
students may purchase concert
tickets, money orders, discount
movie tickets, and lecture series
tickets. The Union also operates
the Satellite Student Union} a
major programming facility on
