The civil. ele tri al, and mechani al englneering programs are accrediled by the Engineers' Coun il for Professional Development (ECPO), th nationally recognized accrediting agen y of th ngin ering profes ion. Th surveying and photogrammetry program is a redited by the aporopriate tale agency. The School of Engineering offer a program in cooperation with the Health Science Department. Th program is designed to prepare its gradual for car r in occupational health and safety. Interested persons ar ref rr d to the section of this catalog entitled Health Science D partment. ENGINEERING FIELDS Civil Engineering. Civil engine ring is concernerl with the science and te hnology of planning, analyzing, designing, constructing, operating. an·d maintaining structure , tran port at ion systems, environmental works, and water resource developments. Within thes fields the c;ivil engineer deal with buildings, bridges. foundations, highways, airports, waterway , pip lin s, surveying, mapping, water supply system , waste treatment systems. rwironmental water quality control, dams, hydropower in lallation , irrig<;~tion, flood control, and other fixed engineering works. The civil engine r may utilize computer methods or analyzing and de igning complex structures and yst m ; undertake r sear h on tructural use of new materials or on advanced methods of water and wast treatment; design prot tive stru tural feature and radiatior1 hielding in nuclear power plants; parti ipale in structural and fa llity aspects of aerospace projects; or work in muni lpal ngineering. urban planning, or vehicular traffic control.
