Johnson, Wilkin Assistant Professor: Manke The Advanced Studies Dcpanmcnt provides preparation for educational specializations which requjre advn11ccd study beyond the teaching credential and maintains credential records for students pursuing programs leading to speciilized service credentials in education. It offers rhe following master of arts degrees: (t) · lucntion wirh a concentration in administration and supervision, (2) education wirh a concentration in educational theory, (3) counseling, and (4) special education. Information is available in the department on credentials in supervision, admjnistration, and pupil personnel services and on specialized prep:u·arion for teachers of exceptional children. COOPERATING PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICTS The professional preparation program of the Advanced Studies Deparrmem utilizes the services and faci lities of a number of cooperating publk school districts in the area for assignment of students to specialized field work. Public school teachers, adminjstrators, consultants, and other personnel provide excellent opportunities for students to gain practical experience in pupil personnel, special education, supervisory, and administrative work. THE STANDARD SUPERVISION CREDENTIAL The Standard Supervision Credential permjrs service as a supervisor consultant, coordinator (or other inrennediate administrative posicion), and pr.incipal, when specifically authorized. The level at which a holder of this credential may serve in the capacities indkated above is detcnnined by the level of the teaching credenr:ial held. See deparrment chairman for requirements for admission to the credential program. REQUIREMENTS The mWmum requirements for the Standard Supervision Credential are as follows: 1. Six years of college or university education in an approved institution, including two years of acceptable postgraduate work 2. A master's degree or orher postgraduate degree requiring not less than five years of college or unive~'Sity work, or in lieu of the degree, the certification by an approved ins.tirution that cl1e completed graduate work is cl1e equivalent of a master's degree. If the master's degree or the certificate of equivalency is not based on nn academic subject m:mcr area, the postgraduate work must include twelve semester units of work in academic subject matter. 3. The possession of a valid basic teachlng credential, 4. Five years of successful full-time teaching experience in public elementary schools, secondary schools, or private schools of equivalent status. PROFESSIONAL PREPARATION The program of professional preparation for this credential requues course work in accordance with the distribution listed below. The professional requirements cover approximately one of the two postgraduate years needed for The Standard Supervision Credential 1.
