ART 179 ART DEPARTMENT Professor: W. Williams Associate Professors: H. Kusel (Chairman), Aiken, Delaney, Laury, Lund, Maughelli, Minschew, Opper, Smalley Assistant Professors: Bertoldi, Chicago, Dangelo, Dolarian, Gaines, Hui, Lockwood, McDougall, Minnich, Slusarski, G. Henderson, McCoon, Meinke The Art Department offers a major in art which leads to a bachelor's degree and a program leading to the master's degree. The program for art niajors and minors is designed to provide a Iibera.! arts education and is not directed toward providing terminal vocational or professional training at the undergraduate level. The department reserves the right to hold projects completed by a student for class credit for a period of three years and to retain for the permanent collection. of its gallery such exnmp.lcs as may be selected. The department cooperates with other departments in providing for a concentration in Asian Studies and Latin American Smdies. (See Special Progrmns- Asia11 Area Courses; Latin American Studies) MAJOR The major in arc for the bachelor of arts degree pro,rides for the study of art in practice, hi tory and theory. lt is designed to prepare a student for post-graduate studies. The major consists of 26 u·pper division units in art (at least 3 of which must be in art histot·y nnd 6 in studio area. maximum. 0f l2 units in one studio area may be applied to rhe major.) The srudent wi.ll propose a program which is appropriate to his needs ;~nd interests in consultation with his adviser. The areas of concemrarion offered by the Art Depanment include, but are not limited to: drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, photography, design, cnfts, primmakil')g, and art history. MINOR The minor consists of 20 upper division units (at least 3 of which must be in art history). The student will propose a program in consultation with his Art Department adviser. CREDENTIAL PROGRAM A student is admitted to practice teaching in art only after dcpa.nmental screening. For infom1ation on the current credenti~l program consult depnnmentnl advisers and the School of Education; sec the section on· Public Scbool Credentials. MASTER OF ARTS DEGREE The grgduatc program for the master of arts degree in art is based upon the equivalent of the undergraduate major in art at Fresno State College. The program provides specificaHy for certain nonvocational areas of concentration: photography, crafts, de ign, drawing, painring, ceramics, sculpture, art history, and theory. For specific requiremenrs consult the chairman of the departmental graduate committee; for general requirements sec Scbool of Grnduate Studies. For detailed information about the graduate program at Fresno State College, see the Grnduate Bulleti11, available in the Office of the Dean, School of Graduate Studies. GENERAL ED·UCATION REQUIREMENTS The following courses will satisfy general education requirements. Area Ill: Art I, 5 (3 units), 6 (3 units), 20T, 30, 60, lOST, 160.
