If the scheduling is right, he is able to go. Games ai Sacramento and UOP are more difficult to attend due to the distance and overnight trips. Perkins has a talent for making him- selfknown to thc crowd. At most of the games hc does a warm-up cheer to get to know who is in the audience. "This routine has been done for a long timeamongcheerleaders,"hcsaid. "On the count of three, lhe crowd savs ihcir first name, then their last name, then their whole name together. Another popular one among the crowd is thc competition cheer where we say,'How do you feel?Thc crowd responds/We feel good,oh, wc feci so good. Yea!' This really gets people in the mood. Then, for thc rest of the game, I just go with the ebb and flow of thc score." The events include the 100-, 400- and 1,500-meier runs; the 110-meter hurdles; the shot put; the discus throw; the javelin throw; the broad jump; the high jump; and the pole vault. Because of the wide range of athletic skills necessary to win a decathlon, the winner is considered one of the world's greatest athletes, according to Fresno City College track coach Gary Bluth. "He will be one of the top decathlon athletes in the state of California at the community college level," Bluih said. "Ke'soneof the NorCal leaders in both hurdle races. Bigham represented Fresno City College in four events last Saturday at the Fresno Relays. His time in the 1 IOmeter hurdles (14.90) was a personal best for him and won him second place. He also placed third in the javelin throw, and fourth in the 400-meter hurdles. His high jump attempt was hampered by a muscle strain, which also kept him from participating in the 1600-meter relay event later that evening. Bigham said he never really participated in any sports until high school He got into track and field and stayed with He participated on the FCC team in his first year in college just out of high school. Then he had to take two years off from school and sports to work. After two years out of competition, he came back as strong as he ever was, according to Bluth. "He's back on top again. He made it to the state meet three years ago. Then, the amazing thing is, after two years off. he came back at the same level," said Bluth. to transfer in a year, bul he hasn'i decided where he will go yet. He said he definitely plans to look for a school which track and field program has a strong focus on decathlons. He will participate in the upcoming NorCal Decathlon inSalinas.
