April 8, 1944______________________PIONEER______________________Page 3 PREPARATION FOR GALA ANNUAL “SENIOR BALL” GETS UNDERWAY Preparation, for the coming Senior Ball next Satur- day evening, April 15, 7:30 to 11 o'clock,, at the high school auditorium is now underway by the various committees headed by Tad Ono, general chairman. The dance open to the public will be a couples only affair and a "coat and tie" will be require. Bids are now available, from senior class members. Various committee chair- men are Momoyo Kinoshita, bids; Barney Kawada,decor- ations; Gladys Nakagawa and Evelyn Miyashima, program. PARADE OF TALENT AT 12H TONIGHT Tonight's weekly block talent show will be pre- sented at 12H mess hall, 7: 30 o’clock, sponsored by the center CA division, stated Roy Nikaido, super- visor of social activities, yesterday. An entertain- ing program for nisei and issei is planned. Tickets may be obtained at 11H, 11K, 12H and 12K block information offices. 842 WOMEN ATTEND CLASSES IN MARCH In adult education clashes the women outnumbered the men during the month of March by a huge margin, 842 to 120, according to statistics released by adult education office this week. Setting the pace with the most number of enrollees were the sewing classes, 13 in all, with a total of 284 members. A close second was the arts and crafts with 260 students. 7K TO HOLD DANCE TOMORROW NIGHT "Easter Parade" social will be held tomorrow eve- ning, 7:30 to 11 o'clock, at the 7K mess hall with the 8K and 7H young people as guests. DELAY IN SHOE STAMPS CLARIFIED Delay in the issuance of shoe ration stamps dur- ing the past week to cen- ter residents was caused by the sudden demand of the renewal of truck gas ration stamps in Lamar from where Amache’s footwear stamps are issued announce Lewis Fanslan, leave officer, yesterday. However, those applying for shoe stamps hereafter will receive them as usual. SEABROOK AGENT TO RETURN SOON Seabrook Farms recruit- ing agent, E. H. Parsells, left for Rohwer center yesterday, but will return next Saturday, the local relocation office announces. Any resident interested in the various Seabrook Farms' job offers may con- tact George Sakamoto at the relocation office this week. THREE NISEI YANKS PLEDGE DEATH OF FOURTH BROTHER IN JAPAN NEW YORK-Three Japanese-American brothers in the U. S. army have pledged to kill their fourth brother- an officer in the Japanese army, Royal Arch Gunnison, former newspaper correspondent in the far east, re- lated March 29, according to the Associated Press. Speaking over Mutual broadcasting system, Gun- nison said he had been in- terviewed by the fourth brother Kazamuro Uno,while interned in a Japanese con- centration camp in the Phillippines. Gunnison said the of- ficer, born and educated in the United States re- lated: "My family, my brothers, are dumb Ameri- cans. They are stupid enough to believe there is such a thing as equality for race or creed in the United States." When the correspondent returned to the United States aboard the diplomatic exchange ship Gripsholm, he told Uno's story in an American magazine,he said, and shortly thereafter re- ceived a letter from Uno's soldier brothers. Gunnison said the letter read: "We wish to inform you that the Jap officer-our brother-is a traitor to the American way of life under which he has enjoyed the benefits of education and freedom.We have pledged the destruction of him and all those like him." MURAKAMI ELECTED 12E COUNCILMAN Masaki Murakami was elected as 12E block coun- cilman to replace Fred Fu- kuda, announces W.Ray John- son, chief of community management.
