NEW ORDER PROVIDES PULLMAN ACCOMODATIONS FOR INVALIDS In order to assist families in relocating a new regulation issued by the Washington WRA office pro- vides that where a member of a family group is sick, infirm or otherwise unable to withstand a long trip to the new community, arrangements may be made at the center to purchase Pullman accommodation for any such person at government- expense, announced Walter J. Knodel, relocation program officer, this week. Complete information on this new provision may obtained at the local relocation office. CO-OP CANTEEN TO CLOSE ON SUNDAYS The Co-op canteen,which has been opening seven days a week, will close every Sunday hereafter to cut down expenses, announced S. Ota, general manager, Tuesday. Newspapers will be sold Sunday afternoons, 1:30 to 3 o'clock, in front of the canteen. TURK TO RETURN FROM CAPITOL HILL Harvey E.Turk,community activities supervisor, is scheduled to return Sunday from Washington DC where he spent the past fi v e weeks on a board reviewing leave clearances from all the relocation centers. PROCEDURE TO QUALIFY AS REGISTERED VOTER RELEASED According to word received from San Francisco con- cerning registration as voters, the Community Coun- cil states that it is too late to put through the registration for the primary election in California, but that there is still plenty of time for the general election. Registration for primary election in Cali- fornia closed on April 6, 40 days prior to election. This 40 days restriction, also, applies to the general election on November 7. In order to become a registered voter, evacuees are urged to register in the county in which they had been residing prior to evacuation. Former residents of San Francisco and Los Angeles counties should apply to the Registrar of Voters In those counties. Former residents of other counties should apply to the county clerk in their respective counties. Evacuees must apply for Affidavit of Regis- trant to their respective counties and after receipt of same, must sign, ac- knowledge and return same to the County Clerk or Re- gistrar of Voters. After registration is completed, application for absentee ballot must be made not more than 20 days and not less than 5 days before the date of election. All citizen residents whohave not registered, including those who have become of age in the cen- ters, and those whose re- gistrations have been can- celled by failure to vote in either or both of the -continued on page 3--- TWENTY MORE AMACHEANS INDUCTED INTO US ARMY Twenty local draftees, Amache’s second group, left early Monday morning to report for their induction into the United States Army, according to Walter J. Knodel, yesterday. The first contingent who were in- ducted on Mar. 27 and then placed in the enlisted re- serve corps also consisted of 20 Amacheans. Ten youths answered the Prowers county draft board’s call while another equal number filled the various California board's quotes. Those called by Prowers county draft board are Jim Harry Fukasawa, 10H-6B; Waichi Fugumitsu, 7F-5E; Chi- kara Karvey Furuye, 11F-11C; Jim Megumi Hamaji, 12G-1E; Ted Teruo Ito, 12F-3E; Frank Hideo Komatsubara, 7F-4C; Joe Nakamura, 7G-7E; John Noruiuki Nishimura, 7G-5D; Hideo Wada, 6F-1C, and George Yoshimoto, 8F-3B. Transfers from Califor- nia boards are Koko Sam Abe, 7E-9D&C; Tetsuo Baba, 7E-8D; Suyeo Carl Daikal, 7E-.11D; James Tsugio Furukawa, 6F- 9BjWilliam Hiroshi Furuta 8E-8B;Robert Masao Kohama 6F-12C; Frank Matsutani 6G-8E;Joe Sakakura,. 9L-6C; Shigeaki Kihara, 8E-11C&D, and Ben Takamatsu, 6H-7D. LOCAL WRA STAFF HITS $496 IN RED CROSS DRIVE A high mark of $496.24 was reached by the appointed personnel Red Cross member-- ship drive which ended Satur- day. Proceeds went to the local chapter headed by Dr. T. Terami. Some personnel members living outside the center donated to their town while others gave both to their town and to the center. DONALD HARBISON RESIGNS POSITION Donald Harbison, who has been assistant project director here since the center was established, resigned his position last week to go into other work, according to project of- ficials. He left Amache last Saturday, returning to his home in Fort Collins, Colo.
