April 1, 1944___________________PIONEER_____________________Page 5 NISEI POTPOURRI by Roy Yoshida ONE DAY IS ENOUGH THIS SATURDAY, accord- ing to my calendar TODAY (Tuesday), Is April First, and my calendar isn't In the habit of April Fooling me -I hope. Commonly known as "All-Fools Day" the kids will be going around with their April First antics in trying to get the best of each other. It will all be in fun and laughs will be on the unwary victims. Thanks to one of Fate's rare kindnesses. I won't be in Amache April Fool. "I'm gonna cover up my type- writer at the end of this column and forget all about my daily toil. Believe me, I need a rest and I think I deserve it, don't you? Don't answer that!! I’m gonna give this camp a break by getting out of here-quit shouting hurrah hurrah, I'm coming back next week. So there! In the meantime, if any- thing, goes wrong with the PIONEER I'll be sharing its woes, BUT way up in Denver- thank goodness. If every- thing goes hunky-dory,give your thanks to the STAFF IN CHARGE because they must have worked hard to make it so. If I know anything about the guys and gals in charge, they'll have some- thing very, very different cooked up for your pleasure- a topsy-turvy edition with all the trimmings. Well, have your APRIL FOOLING Saturday and get it out of your system, go to town with your antics . And when the day is over resolve to do no more "fool- ing," "I mean In a silly nonsensical way. One day of being an "April Fool is enough; from this day on be alert ,be wary,be care- ful- lest each day become April First for you.'' I don’t mean to be super- serious, but strike a happy medium. Life must have its good, clean fun, jokes, humorous incidents and fre- qunt hearty'"guffaws." It all adds zest to living. A good laugh is a good tonic for that run-down feeling. And whatever happens don't let anything get you down. But, if It should, then keep it to yourself and don’t ever take it out on the first guy or gal that comes along. Why make another person unhappy with your troubles! Keep Smiling! STRICT VISITING RULES ENFORCED AT ENGLEWOOD Only blood relatives may visit inmates of the Feder- al Correctional Institution at Englewood, Colo.,accor- ding to information receiv- ed by the Community Council. However, a person may obtain a visitor’s permission di- rectly from the warden of the institute. The message further stat- ed that anyone refusing to take the soldiers' oath at the time of his induction will be inducted into the army and probably subjected to court martial proceed- RECRUITERS FROM SEABROOK ARRIVE E. Stanley Parcells, representative of the Sea- broo , Farms, accompanied by George Sakamoto, former resident of Amache and at present employed by Sea- brook, will arrive here this morning to inter- view prospective workerss for the farm, according to Mario Vecchio, relocation advisor. The two will be located at the relocation office for a few days. Interested families, single men and women for cannery, dehydrator,quick- freeze plants and farm and orchard work may receive information regarding wages, housing and working condi- tions. A trial period indefinite leave for four to six mon- ths may be taken by any person for these jobs,con- cluded Vecchio. McCLELLANDS GET DESERVED REST "Our boss" Reports Of- ficer and Mrs. Joseph Mc- Clelland left the center Tuesday morning for their annual leave to Fort Collins, Colo., where they will visit his parents, accord- ing to Yayeko Morita, sec- eretary. They are expected to return Friday. CHECK-UP MADE BY WRA OFFICIAL Seymoure Cahn, head of the examination and inves- tigation section of the Washington office, arrived here Monday to make a pre- liminary check-up of local administrative operations and procedures, according to James G. Lindley, project director, yesterday. Upon completion of his business matters here, Cahn will leave for other relocation centers. THREE EVACUEES TAKEN TO PUEBLO FOR ARRAIGNMENT Three Amache nisei, who failed to report for pre- induction physical examina- tion Tuesday, were taken into custody by the US Marshal yesterday morning, to be taken to Pueblo for arraignments, according to Walter J, Knodel, Selective Service officer. From Pueblo, they will be taken to the Federal Correctional Institute in Englewood, Colo., to await their trial. The draft- evaders were George and Frank Takamoto, 10E-5C, and Riyuo Uyeda, 12F-8B. EDGEWATER BEACH HOTEL AGENT HERE Mrs. Mary Nagata will be at the relocation office for a few days to recruit workers for the Edgewater Beach Hotel,Chicago,accord- ing to Mario Vecchio, re- loction officer. TAKASHI SHIMA TO HEAD ARA BOARD Takashi Shima was elec- ted chairman of the Amache Recreational Association Board of Directors, suc- ceeding Taka Aratani, at a special meeting Sunday at the 8F CA office. The ab- rupt change arose over the WRA policy regarding eli- gibility of community acti- vities workers in the ARA. The other newly elected member is Kuhachi Ikuta, succeeding Saburo Cujow who relocated,as co-signer of checks. The main purpose of the confab was to discuss the possibility of the basket- ball team attending the in- vitational JACL tournament in Denver, Mar. 29, 30 and 31.
