johnnie presents by tsuruta WE MEET AGAIN That's what Norma Hama- moto and Momoyo Kinoshita will be saying tonight. And, in all probability, one of them will "regret" the meeting. Momoyo will be cavorting for the All- Stars and will no doubt be given the duty of checking Sepol's high-scoring Norma once again. They have met thrice before and in each instances Momoyo has suc- cessfully kept the Rambler- ette flash from scoring more than six points. In- citentally, Shooting Stars' stalwart defender is the only gal in the Girls' lea- gue who has stopped 19- digit-average Norma (in five league tilts)all sea- son. They were chosen as the best forward and guard res- pectively in the loop, but so far the guard has held, the upper hand. Tonight's tussle will be their fourth meeting as opponents . Can Norma break the jinx and get away on a scoring spree? Or will Momoyo check her versatile opponent with her eye-pleas- ing defensive performance? Yes,it will be very inter- esting to watch this duo match their respective ability, probably for the last time this season. Watch them close. FOR THE LAST TIME Many Amache boys, and the visiting Chicago cagers, too, will probably be play- ing their favorite game of Naismith sport for the last time tonight and tomorrow-- for the duration--as a civ- ilian. Yes,a lot of .them have passed their pre-in- duction physical and are awaiting call into the arm- ed services. In fact, two of the local casabans ,Miles Hamada of the"AA" champion Dusters and Tom Kashiwabara of the "A”A”All-stars, will leave early Monday morning for their induction into the Army, Sunday will mark their last basketball games as civilians. Yes,they and many others will be wearing the khaki soon. If they can show the same kind of spirit they exhibited on the court, we're sure they will make a good name for themselves. So to Miles and Tom,and others going with them Mon- day, and all those going in the future, we wish each and every one the best of luck and happy tramping. DUSTER-CHICAGO CLASH TONITE; GIRLS IN PRELIMINARY TILT DoubLE-A champions, the Dusters, who are the pride and joy of Brush Aral, will tangle with the visiting Chicago Hyde Park"Y" quin- tet tonight in the local high school gym. The Ram- blerettes will face the Girls All-Stars in the pre- liminary slated for 7:15 o'clock. Suffering three embar- rassing defeats up in Den- ver, the visiting Chicagoans are raring to redeem them- selves at the expense of the Amache casaba tossers. Wi th Shig Fukuyama and Hide Uba leading the at- tack, the Dusters are in for a very busy evening of maplewood maneuvering. Brush Aral will nail his hopes on shoulders, of Soapy Hiyashima at the pi- vot post, flanked by James Watanabe in the front line and Miles Hamada in the back court. Shig Sugano, Al Kato,"Lefty" Nishijima, Joe Shiro, Nob Kuwatani and possibly Richie Nimura will be in there hammering away for Duster victory. In the opening encounter the Ramblin' Ramblerettes' are favored to take the Girls All-Star by a close margin. PIONEER Sports March 25, 1944 Page 7 TWO TILTS TOMORROW LOCAL DOUBLE-A ALL-STARTS In tomorrow's feature contest the cream of local caging dynasty, the "AA" All-Stars ,with such basket- ball luminaries as veteran Tosh Shimizu, sharpshooting John Kashiwabara and all- around Soapy Miyashima, will "jell" their combined strength to match buckets with the high-powered Chi- cago Hyde Park "Y" barn- storming basketballers In the high school gym. The youthful Amache high school varsity cagers and the single-A All-Stars will clash in the 1:15 p.m. opener. This will be double-A All-Stars' third tilt so they should work out as a well-coordinated unit and if they hit their stride it should mean victory for them. They will not only floor a speedy quintet but also a rangy one that has plenty on the ball when it comes to singeing the net- ting. Besides the above trio, the All-Stars will have lanky Chick Furuye, Miles Hamada, Al Kato, James Wa- tanabe, Shig Sugano, Ben Yamagiwa, Tsu Sumada and John Tsuruta to make it plenty tough for the Chi- cagoans. Local fans will see one of the fastest court tus- sles this season when the Amache High, school speed demons meet the “A" All- Stars. In all probability, this will be a regular wes- tern "firemen" style of game with the casaba travel- ing up and down the court in a fast and furious pace, and with plenty of scoring. John Kashiwabara’s Indi- an roster, which reads like a bunch of 100 yard dash men, is as follows: Tosh --continued on page 5-- “AA” ALL-STARS MAY MAKE DENVER TRIP The local "AA" All-Star basketball team may par- ticipate in the three-day invitational cage tourna- ment , in Denver sponsored by the citizens' league on Mar. 29, 30 and 31, if the present plan by the center sport enthusiasts gets the proper backing and interest. Teams from Heart Moun- tain, Topaz, Cheyenne, Salt Lake City and several quin- tets in the Denver citizens'' league are expected to play in this all-nisei tourney.
