Hapless Lil' Abners were never in the ball game as the Fire Department cagers peppered the twine at will to pull away to a 24-4 lead at half-time, while the Firemen defense had the Abner scoring threats cover- ed like a blanket. The "Polios" clung to a 5-4 lead at half-time, but Ma- tsumoto, Mayahara, and Ono shoved in enough points in the third canto for the Butchers to come out on top. HURRICANES PULL UPSET TO KNOCK ZEPHYRS OUT OF SINGLE-A RACE The underdog Hurricane quintet swept the Zephyrs right off the court and out of the running for the single-A crown by handing them a 33-2 3 defeat Thurs- day evening. The Zephyrs just couldn't get their fast-breaking,high-scoring offense to function as the Hurricaners grabbed the lead and pulled ahead at intermission period to a 18-12 advantage. The Hur- ricaners breezed through the last two charters cling- ing on to their lead, to register an upset victory. Sam Nogawa and Goro Sa- saki took scoring honors with 11 and 10 markers res- pectively for the winners. Summary: HURRICANERS (33) Joe 4, Nogawa 11,Sasaki 10, Kuri- ta 4, Kunisaki 4, Kanda. Miss Vera Thompson, third grade teacher, served tea after the meeting. -E- Miss Matsumoto, third grade teacher,and Dr.Enoch Dumas spoke at the parents' meeting yesterday at 8H-6C . -E- Elementary and junior high school's dental check- up will be finished this week and the senior high examinations will begin Monday, according, to the elementary school office yesterday. NIGHT CLASSES A night class in mechani- cal drafting will be orga- nized if enough young people are interested, according to Samuel J. Gordon, night school director. Mr. Stillinger is sched- uled to teach the class on Monday and Thursday evenings. Sign-ups for the class will be held at the high school office on Monday evening. it New class in English will be held every Monday and Thursday evenings at the high school, s tat e s Samuel J.
