January 29, 1944______________PIONEER________________Page 5 NISEI POTPOURRI By Roy Yoshida PRESIDENT'S BALL TONIGHT at the local high school gym will be featured the much-publi- cized and for much more worthy cause--THE PRESI- DENT’S BALL. This infan- tile paralysis fundraising dansant sponsored by the local Community Activities under Shig Sakamoto's chair- manship deserved your whole- hearted support. All pro- ceeds from this social e- vent is to be contributed towards the March of Dimes . It is a human failing to forget the misfortunes of a cloudy weather when the sun is shining. Perhaps some of us have forgotten that it was just several months ago that this center went thru weeks of "polio ban" that "--cramped our style" of living. No doubt many of us would have given anything at that time to be assured that we would not fall victim to this dreaded disease. We l l, that opportunity is here today and your share of contribution asked is very small. But it shall add greatly towards putting some boy or girl happily back on his or her feet, and that is a credit to humanitariansim. Your support of the Pres- ident's Ball and the March of Dimes will be well re- paid whenever crisis arises and this "ounce of preven- tion" may help to escape that "pound of cure." The residents of Amache should be aware of the penalty of that "pound of cure." Your contribution today will help rehabilitate those who fall victim to the in- fantile paralysis epidemic that hit our center last fall. That thought alone should made you strongly support tonight's event. For there is something fine and big about helping those who are not able to help themselves. Community Activities com- mittee has worked hard to bring you an enjoyable eve- ning of dancing in order that you will get”full di- vidend" for your bit-or should I say two bits? Now, isn't it worth the price of admission to know that your share will enable some- body to enjoy some day the joy of dancing that you will enjoy tonight? So let's open the purse-strings in our hearts and lend our full-hearted support t o the President's Ball. SCRAP PAPER DRIVE GOING FULL SPEED To date, over two tons of scrap paper have been salvaged by the student council, according to Dr. Enoch Fumas, elementary school principal. An all-high is expected to be reached soon since the boy Scouts have promised their services to the drive during Scout Week, Feb. 7- 13. What’s This? As an added attraction a five-piece band com- posed of the members of the 335th Escort Guard will furnish the music for this evening's Pres- ident's Ball at the local high school gym. This unexpected feature should make tonight's “coat and tie" event a very enter- taining evening for those attending as the MP musi-! cal knights promise to “give out” with some “hot licks.” THREE EDUCATION HEADS VISIT HERE Three faculty members of the State College of Education at Greeley made a tour of the Amache schools yesterday and met with the local teachers, states Lloyd A. Garrison, super- intendent of education. The visitors were Dr.O. L. Troxel, head of the de- partment of public relation,- Dr. F. C. Jean, chairman of the science department and Paul Hambrick, profess- sor of elementary education. VITAL ===STATISTICS=== BIRTH: To Mr. and Mrs. Edward H. Hotta, 11H-4A, a. boy, Jan. 26.
