Page 10__________________PIONEER Christmas EDITION__________December 24, 1943 Y’s way Considerable amount of books, magazines and. other reading material was col- lected by the Girl Reserves in their recent book drive for the patients in the center hospital. The Pimpernels met at Hospitality House Sunday to sort and tie the books, under the direction of Fumi Sakaguchi, president. -Y- Boxes of gifts and ma- terial for club use were sent to the Amache Y from the National YWCA in New York, the Evanston YWCA at Northwestern University, Ill., and the Denver YWCA. Toys and gifts were given to the church office for distribution with the other center Christmas gifts. -Y- The Gamma Rhos received a Christmas package from the Monroe seventh grade Girl Reserve club of in sen City, Iowa. The Rhos made and donated socks to the Church office for distribution. -Y- Various Girl Reserve Clubs have been helping the Church office wrap gifts for the Sunday School chil- dren. -Y- A "Hard Time Dance" will be held by the Meta Adel- phons with the Las Ninas, officer of the Spurs, and boys as guests. -Y- Soldiers' calendars for the Christmas week were made by the Valaines. A summary of local activities is included in the booklets. -Y- A monetary gift was re- ceived from the Business and Industrial secretary of the Bay City, Michigan YWCA. -Y- Christmas cards were made by the Meta Adelphons under the direction of pres- ident Toshiko Tahara and sent to the various YWCA and people who have helped the Amache Y . The Tri Delts designed and made similar cards which were sent to the servicemen who have visited Hospitality House. -Y- TWO Y CLUBS ELECT OFFICERS Fumi Sotomura was elected president of the Wee Teeners at a meeting Sunday. Others on the cabinet are Julia Yoshioka, vice-president; Rumi Tonai, secretary; Shiz Terada,historian; and Grace Yamaguchi,member-at- large . -Y- Cookie Takano was re- elected president of the Juniorettes. Other officers are Louise Sasano, vice- pres ident; Koharu Taketa, secretary; Anna Sugiyama, treasurer; Lorraine Miya- hara, historian; and Rose Morita, member-at-large . Plans for a joint in- stallation social with the Wee Teeners were made. GR'S, BOYS'CLUB TO GO CAROLING The Royal Spartans,for- merly known as the Royal Knights and first boys Y club in the center, will go caroling on Christmas eve with the Girl Reserves, according to Kenn Yonemura, club reporter. An installation social is being planned to be held during the latter part of the month. YULETIDE GREETINGS The Blue Star Mothers' organization, wishes a merry Christmas to the adminis- trative personnel, visiting, soldiers, and the center residents. -0- The Amache Women's Fed- eration extends Christmas greetings to the adminis- trative personnel and the center residents. DONATION The Amache Women's Fed- erat ion received a Christmas donation from Mrs. C.Kana- zawa,founder of the center organization, now residing in Chicago, Ill. The coustruction of a cannery, to be connected with the present dehydra- tion plant, was started last week. POSTON, Ariz…. A three-day C hr i s t ma s Bazarr with concessions and displays of arts,handi- crafts, and agricultural accomplishments was held. A Christmas benefit dance climaxed the festivities. The Army interviewing team visited the center to recruit qualified men for the Camp Savage Military Intelligence Service lang- uage school. Minidoka, Ida…. Over 1,000,000 pounds of vegetables were produced on the 270-acre project farm. 1,000 acres are ex- pected to be planted next spring. Due to the lack of ma- terials, the construction of the high school auditor- ium-gym is progressing very slowly. DENSON, Ark.... The first snow of the winter fell on the morning of Dec. 15. A center-wide Clean-up Day was heldlast Saturday. ROHWER, Ark.... With "Jeep or Bust" their slogan, the National Honor Society of Rohwer high school sponsored a three- week center-wide War Bond and Stamp drive. Selling a grand total of $3505.95 worth of War Bonds and Stamps, the campaign tripled the goal which was set at $1165, the cost of one jeep. A special bus transport- tation from the center to near-by McGehee was made to offer the residents an opportunity to do their Christmas shopping.
